They make a black version also. The thing that annoyed me is once you open it you have to use it. It will cure in the tube after you open so buy the smallest you can get.

I get the top screwed on asp after the application, then I vac bag it for up to a year.
Cheers, Don

Got a little tube of black 5200 on the way. Thanks Xander.
Im familiar with curing thing cause ive used the stuff on my dads boat before. Great idea with the vac sealer.

I deal with 4000 and 5200 all the time with my boats, it will last years and years with zero gumming up or hardening if you simply put in fridge after use, simple.I live in the tropics so it is harder on the products and the fridge is the way to go.

Great idea. Most of these products require a thermal energy component

Went over to speardiver hq and picked up the last few pieces for the gun from Dan. 11 feet of small ID band Speardiver rubber. Lots of wishbone material. And A sweet little ready made line wrap anchor.
Dan also recommended I do a little bit larger roundover on the gun. I concurred and did it this morning going from 3/8 to 1/2. It didnt seem like much but it makes a huge positive difference in the profile and feel of the gun.
Dan has been a huge help on this entire build. Not only in the heaps of advice and physical help he's provided. But also in selling such a nice complete set of gun parts I know I can expect to be awesome and depend on. Minus the butt and blank. I got everything from Dan. Thanks
Also thanks to all the forum guys who have spent a lot of brain power figuring out questions I've posed. Its thanks to you guys a semi-clueless builder like me can make all the right decisions.
Thanks for the help everyone. :thumbsup2:

love the line guide :cool2:
-
Anyone have any opinions on the positioning of the line guide? Any reason to put it closer/further from the muzzle etc? My plan is mount it flush to the side of the gun a half inch back from the muzzle (measured to the tip of the guides shark fin)
-
Thats probably fine. Ive seen them close, far and non existent but they are usually on the opposite side of the line release.
-
If the stock didn't have a 1/2" roundover you could attach it to the side pointing up. How about milling a pocket and pinning it vertically

Hmm that's a cool idea Dan. I might just do it. I'd need to figure out pins though.
On second thought I like how its gonna look flushed into the gun but still on top there. Gives it a little bit of bling. I also prefer it to be horizontal I think. Gonna cut it now.
-
Love it. Looks great !
The line guide should go on a 45* line from the guide on the front of the muzzle. Viewed from above, imagine the front of the gun as the horizon.
I say this because I think you want it as close to the front as possible but it need to be held back enough to stay in the groove. I find 45 to be the perfect compromise
-
Use a shark spike as a line guide. Just offset it to the left some. I think it will look cool. You can return the guide.
-
I wouldn't want it offset. I also plan to cap the spike. Plus the hole for the shark spike is drilled and the guide recess is cut. Would take some pics but I've got some epoxy drying
-
Got a pic when I could turn it.
-
is that enough over hang from the line guide ? by the way i am jealous , that shark spike looks awesome !!!:thumbsup2:
-
It does look a little hidden in the stock. I can't wait to see it in person
-
It's got a half inch round over so it's got a nice hook for the line whilst being flush. "It's an illusion Michael"
Edit: rounded the band slot this morning. Gonna see how it stacks (gotta build a breakaway snubber today) before I cut any more, If i cut anymore. I like it how it is. Probably gonna round the other corners a teeny bit more.
