South Florida Bluewater Build.

  • Thanks guys :D

I built a breakaway adapter today. Turned out pretty nice. I also finished up the bands minus wishbones. Rigged the gun up and this thing is almost done! It needs final sanding. But im keeping that for pre-coating. So its time to ballast and then coat it.

  • Please take a spotter with your for you first shot, they can stay behind as you cock and shoot.
You can brace your non trigger palm on the gun butt until you figure out the recoil.
    Nice job mate.:toast:

  • Make sure to file it in the "Blue water handhold novella" section.

Great advice Don, Thanks. I plan to maybe always shoot the gun like that as I imagine its going to have a good kick to it.

Going diving tom so I plan to take the gun and ballast loaded in the water. Gonna need a lot of lead I think.

In the meantime I took a few HD gunporn pics. It was way too bright outside. But its better then the typical dark iphone photos.

  • Very nice, it's perfect. I'd go nearby to the dock and ballast it in the salt water. You don't want to mess with this on the boat with so much going on.

I was thinking that. But have you ever pulled a boat out of the intercoastal and it was black with muck and oil etc? Im worried about giving it a premature finish lol. I guess I just need a place near the port I will go to 17th street or something. I was planning on leaving it hidden away all day until right before we leave and then doing it. But youre right, better not to have to load unload etc etc while diving.

  • Cant belive thats your first build man! Looks like a seaoned pro built that elagant gun, congradulations, cant wait to see it all dressed up for the prom :thumbsup2:

  • You should go to the park/docks on Sunrise blvd just past the first bridge on the north side. There's a small beach away from the docks, I take the dog there swimming sometimes and wade in. It's pretty clean, I've never seen oil. You can also go to the park off Victoria park, there's a cement wall there with steps to the water. People launch kayaks there sometimes. You may prefer that as there's no sand and you can put your weights on the cement wall.

  • Thanks guys :thumbsup2:

Its actually my second build. I built a little holegun on a half finished blank Dan had lying around. Somewhat with a more serious build like this one in mind. It was great in allowing me a little familiarity and practice with teak and giving me the confidence to build a gun on a nice expensive fancy blank.

Dan thanks for the tips, thats exactly what I will do. (probably the ramp off sunrise)

  • Definitely on that Don. A week after I solidified the plans the blank was on my doorstep. Had it not been for woodguy id probably be staring at a blank hanging to dry not a finished gun. And the end result wouldnt even be as nice.

Went and ballasted the gun today. For it to sink slowly and evenly it takes 1.1 lbs of lead, mostly in the front of the gun.

    To hold 11.25 ounces in the front I plan a slot 8 x 0.5 x 0.5

For the back I plan to hold the 5.25 ounces in a 3 x 5/8 hole. drilled in the back center.

  • wow that's a lot of lead but then again it is a blue water gun . can't wait to see it finished . good luck .:thumbsup2:

Be safe ... Happy hunting .

  • Nice...mass is your friend.:D Wood guy sold you some nice teak, not that shite from the outside of the tree.

  • That seems about right. the 55's and 57's we have build are around 16 ounces of lead. I do have some younger wood in my stockpile though.
