I have been wanting to get out and find some Pismo clams. I have a good idea of where to go and if the waves and weather cooperate I will head out on Sunday, there is a minus tide too. I am curious why I can't seem to find any posts on Pismo clams on the board? Is this a secret that people don't want to discuss? Have the clams been over fished? Maybe I am over looking something else? Anyway tips you can recommend for diving for Pismo clams? Recipes? Tactics? Thanks. I hope to have a report soon of a successful dive.

Well I was chasing Pismo clams Yesterday and no luck. I did find some broken shells but that was about it. However I managed to dig in the dirt and get a limit of cockle clams. I have them purging in the water so hopefully I will have some clean and tasty steamed clams, clams and linguine, or maybe some empanadas de mariscos.

We say: "counting the chicken before the eggs are laid"... :rolleyes1::laughing:

I didnt have Linguini so I made Penne alla Vongole. Kind of has a double entendre to it no?
We have the same saying here in the states. "Don't count your chickens before they hatch." My favorite saying is "camarón que se duerme, se lo lleva la corriente."

Are those the ones people dig during low tide? I've tried it a couple of times in Malibu but all I get is rocks
-
Yup same ones. They are about six inches deep. A little hand rake works great in locating them. If you see water being shot up into the air that is most likely a clam. Minimum size of 1.5 inches and a limit of 50.
Here is an interesting video on clamming that might help.

The spots I have found I wouldn't even share with my closet dive buddy's .... or my friend Don.
Good luck .. Cheers .. Joe

I think I have found a spot from my research but I need the conditions to be right. I am hoping for some tips like finding them in the sand (What to look for) as opposed to just digging around. And maybe some info on what is used to drag them around once caught or any tid bit of information. I figured their is a lot of experience among the members here and could learn something with out having someone give up a spot. I am willing to put in the research and burn some gas and swim a distance to find them. But maybe I'm over analyzing clam digging?
