Is there such a thing as a 100lb yellowtail?

Yes in Australia and New Zealand.
Here is a friend of mine with the North American Record from Guadalupe Island. 87.6 lbs taken after filming (and riding) White Sharks.

Impressive fish. Must've been recent because that Sporasub float hasn't been on the market that long.

Quote from Brandon....:D
Unfortunately the gun is on the bottom in 400 ft of water due to a white shark eating my buoy, pulling the gun out of my hand and taking the whole rig to the bottom, biting through my bungee with its teeth. It was a beautiful gun with a sick squid paint job by amadeo.Cheers, Don
PS, I believe he shot the fish Sept 09.

That is the most sophisticated fish push I've ever seen I'm amazed your friend could keep that posture. Actually I'll bet the pic was taken in motion, I know I couldn't hold that fish at arms length.
