Twine cutting rubber?

  • Just tied a couple bands, for the first time ever I had the twine actually cut into the rubber. Speardiver waxed twine, primeline rubber. Anybody else ever have this happen? Pic quality isn't good, but if you look close you can see that the twine cut through the outer black wall and into the amber underneath.

  • That happened to someone I know recently. I've been using 40 # mono fishing line to tie my bands for over 20 years, and have had no problems. I used to use the metal or plastic rings for years prior to the mono, but they were a pain in the ass to get on.

  • My ritual is to lick the band before I cinch it....I know weird, but it comes from my fly ting days.

  • I do so much licking and spitting and lubricating building bands they should pay me afterwards. But same with Don, I learned with H+L to lick knots.

  • I've always licked my h&l knots too, never thought to lick my bands. I'll be licking my rubbers from here on out, per your recommendations. :D

  • That's what I thought too Dan. I was using a double constrictor. This is the first and only time it's ever happened to me, maybe just a rare occurrence. I cut off half an inch and retied it without problem.
