Accuracy problems

  • I bought the hammerhead karbon 130 a few weeks back and have been shooting terribly. The gun is shooting very low, anyone know why/what I can do to fix it? Thanks :)
Ps. Not sure if this will make a difference but it is set up with a break away rigging

  • I would start with one band and target things at 10' to begin with, then move out to no more then 12 feet off the tip with 2 bands. Check that the shaft is straight and the flopper is not binding before laying flat.

Then shoot it over and over until you and hitting fish or targets well.

  • Alright I'll start with that. Also my buddy shot the gun and he too shot very low but when I try his riffe I was able to hit all the fish I aimed for.

What gun was he shooting, how long was it?

  • 110 riffe euro.

Both those guns are fine, and are accurate in the right hands. I have never shot the hammerhead but the Hawaiian guys speak well of it. I would keep shooting the hamerhead over and over so your brain memorizes the muscle setting for a perfect shot. In time you will be able to just look at the fish, extend the gun hand and know you have dinner.

  • I switch between hammerhead and a riffe euro frequently. I aim them the same way and have no problems. I've never used a breakaway but i've also never heard of it changing the point of impact. For me anytime I shoot something that's not a railgun/euro I hit 12' low. Trying to sight in a new gun on fish can be super frustrating. Try some target practice preferably in a pool and tell us how it goes. If its still not working out you can try a shorter overhang, that brings up the point of impact for me.

    Aim higher. :D

I agree with Don in trying one band. If I power my gun up too much, two things can happen. One, the recoil kicks the muzzle upward as the end of the shaft passes it and kicks the trajectory lower.
Two, I tense up, anticipating the recoil and jerk the trigger instead of a smooth pull.

I like a gun with less recoil. I'll give up the distance of a Hail Mary shot for accuracy.

  • Thanks guys I'll try all of that and get back with the results

Take your time, sometimes it's a slow process but it will be worth it. I've watched tons of guys over the years keep switching guns thinking it will make them sharp shooters. I would change out a gun if it was junk to begin with, that's not the case here, You are the most important part of stoneing fish, also work on getting close to get head and spine shots. Good luck buddy.

    All the best, Don

  • Where's the flopper located? Below or above? If it is located above, it will shoot lower than if it is located below. Specially if you are used to shoot guns with Hawaiian flopper shafts.
