Nice fish! I've seen several broken Cressi shafts. They break at the notches and where the flopper is pinned. Great spearguns, but they could work on the quality of their shafts. Cressi may give you a replacement shaft. I'd send them the video and an email

Awesome! Were you using a sling with a shooting line?

We can only afford to go once a year, but I'll definitely get in touch whenever we are planning our next trip. Probably next Jan-Marchish. The wind was blowing the wrong way to dive the cut this year when we where there. I've yet to dive it. Hopefully next year.

Do you mean polespear? Sling with a slip-tip would probably not be a good idea unless you had a line connected to it somehow. I'm not really sure what the best shafts to use are. Maybe someone on the board knows?

Welcome Drags. I believe there are a couple of wrecks near the beach in Corolla. I've never dove them though. I've lived on the Outer Banks my whole life and have yet to go to Corolla. Kind of sad. For gear bring a 75cm speargun or a polespear the wrecks are probably fishy, murky, and on the shallow side so bring a little extra weight for your belt. If you need anything including advice check out the Roanoke Island Outfitters. They have a bunch of spearing gear and are cool people. They are in Manteo. Good luck and hope you get some clear water.

Thanks guys. My girl and I surf whenever we get the chance so we've been going to Eleuthera. This years trip was not that great for waves, but the Caribbean side was nice for the most part. I'm starting to get more dialed in on diving there though. I wish that I could stay down there for months. I'd imagine San Salvador is amazing as well.

Awesome. How long does it take you guys to get there from Stuart?

Both eyes open. Take some time to practice whenever you get to the Bahamas. You will get so that your aiming comes naturally and you will just be focused on what the fish is doing. Like anything, the more you shoot the better you'll get. The stiffer the band, the harder it is to have a consistent shot. Also if you use the big fat round shooters you can butt the end against your palm. Doing that eliminates any strain/shaking on your wrist. Bring a polespear or at least a backup shaft for second shots on wounded fish... That being said, I live in NC and get to the Bahamas once a year so I am mediocre at best with a sling. I'm sure some guys on here can give more and much better advice. Have fun and keep your fish out of the water.

Awesome.

Next trip I'm bringing a long polespear with a sliptip. I ended up landing a few nice hogs, but I lost a good amount of nice fish as well. I think the shafts they sell in the bahamas the floppers are too small. I had a good amount of tear-offs. I lost a mutton that was at least 15lbs. Made me sick to my stomach. Oh well. My girlfriend speared her first fish and now she's hooked so that's awesome.

Thanks guys. I would've made it round if I had access to a lathe, but it actually feels nice in the hand as is. The last sling I made was too skinny. I made sure to make this one nice and fat so you can but the stearn of it up against the palm of your hand when shooting without rubbing against the shaft. I sprayed a few coats of Krylon Crystal Clear inside and out so hopefully it doesn't absorb any water.

We removed a beautiful old cedar tree that had fallen down at work a couple of days ago. It seemed like a shame to turn such a nice tree into fire wood so I took a log and planed it down to the heartwood and made a new sling for next weeks Bahamas trip. It looks so pretty that I had to show it off on here:D

Welcome Billum. You'll have a nice time if you catch some vis @ the Triangle Wrecks. It is only 15ft or so deep so you don't have to be Joe Superfreediver to have fun there. There are a couple of little swim-throughs that are kinda neat. Hands down the most frequently dove spot in this area, so keep that in mind if you are trying to get some fish. Congrats on your breath hold progress!
