The water can be much colder north of Rodanthe due to upwelling, so a 3 or 5mm would be nice. Are you planning on shore diving or offshore wreck diving? Offshore Hatteras in July I'd wear a 3mm at most. Usually I just wear a top and shorts or just shorts. It really depends on your exact location. Have fun.

The Dexter Russell Utility Knife is a damn decent knife for spearfishing. The Sheath needs a bit of modification to fit onto a weight belt, and a hole needs to be drilled in the handle to attach a bungee retainer, then you're set. I used aviation snips to make the holes in the sheath a bit longer. It's a great size, super sharp, and best of all you can find them at most tackle shops for about $10. :toast:

Hey Dan.. Could you tell me where I could get one of those compact line retainer/slide rings that you used? I'd like to get one for my Cyrano. That thing looks way nicer and more functional than the stock parts. Thanks!

I've used Omer Abyss, Bandit, Alien, Riffe frameless, Cressi Matrix and Big Eye, and Aqualung Micromask. My two favorites are the Omer Abyss, and the Cressi masks. All exept the Omer Abyss, Riffe, and Cressi masks give me uncomfortable squeeze between my eyes. Also, I usually have a beard and mustache and the Cressis seem to leak the least on me. If I slap some Belly Jelly or Vaseline on the whiskers they all work though. I prefer the Big Eye mask for its gigantic windows. Matrix coming in a close second.

I had very annoying ear issues all last dive season. They wouldn't really bother me too badly while diving, but most of my dives were no deeper than 20ft or so. Most of my dives I'd only have to clear once. I dive almost everyday for an hour or two May through August or so. About 30 minutes or so after diving my ears would kind of close up. It wasn't painful, just extremely annoying. When I talked all that I could hear was loud buzzing. I work retail so this sucked. I went to the doctor. She said that I had a lot of fluid inside of my inner ear. Prescribed me antibiotics. They didn't help my problem at all. I tried wearing the vented earplugs, and they didn't make a difference either. I usually go on a few offshore trips, but I found that when I did repeated dives any deeper than 30ft or so I would start to blow bloody mucus crap out of my nose. Anybody else have a similar ear issue? Or know what could cause this?

Look up Mid Atlantic Freediving Club on the internet. They are in Virginia Beach, but dive out of Hatteras. Great group of guys who do a lot of freediving on deep wrecks during the summer months. You don't have to be Joe Superdiver to get some nice fish offshore in Hatteras. Wilmington would be a closer drive for you though... I'm ready to poke some flounder in the shallows myself. 2 and a half or so more months til fishing season!

i cant wait until scuba guys start wearing htese as land shoes...that would be great...seeing a guy in publix or the dry cleaners with these on...

    "what, they are shoes too?!?"

With a hot pink rashguard w/ huge belly sticking out of the bottom and some speedos. Awesome. They need some wheels on them for rolling on the reef.

I did some yoga in Kona with Annabelle. She showed me her pre-dive warmup and I totally enjoyed it. Great way to maximize your diving ability. I forgot most of the streches now, but I think they are very similar to the ones in Pelazzari's book... Now if I could just dive 25% as good as Annabelle I might be getting somewhere. Very cool link Don. Thanks

When you insert the shaft into the mech to make sure it will wiggle back and forth a little. I've had my Picasso handle and Rob Allen "misfire". The mechs were still good, but the mono got binded up in the mech causing it to not lock in place properly. Both times I was loading. I've never had one go off for no reason after they're loaded... I couldn't imagine. Scary she-ite.
I'll probably never own a wood gun because I'll probably never have a real job;)

If you hold the tear together from the inside of the suit with masking tape, and then only apply the Aquaseal on the outside there is no comfort issues. Wait for the glue to harden then peel the tape off of the inside. Should be a nice smooth seal inside with no discomfort. I've repaired my Omer top like this at least 15 times with no issues of discomfort at all. I would say Aquaseal inside of the suit may be uncomfortable depending on where the hole is. That's my 2 cents.

Don't know about using Aquaseal for neoprene repair in wetsuits. I've used Aquaseal to fix rubber fin pockets by using the tire tube scuffer that comes in a bike tire repair kit. Use the scuffer and scuff the shit out of the rubber surrounding the tear. Get inside and outside the footpocket. Liberally apply Aquaseal inside and out and also where the tear makes contact with itself. Let dry, and enjoy being a sly bastard with your newly repaired fin pockets.

PS when using the Aquaseal you might as well line up a few things to fix at one time because the stuff is almost always dried up in the tube when you go to use it again.

I second that... It seems like on some of the other forums the egos are rather large. It seems like the guys here are a tight knit group of very experienced divers and they're more than willing to help you with any questions. Enjoy, and welcome to the world of freediving! :thumbsup1:
