Dry bag

  • To keep your wetsuit and gear nice and dry so it doesn't get wet when you go spearing...
So when you put your drenched gear in, it won't wet averything around...
I dont know I think it's kind of silly....
    Thats why I don't go spearing when it's raining...^^

  • On a more serious note maybe some people keep a change of dry clothes to change into on the ride home if the weather is colder? I used to put my gear in a mesh bag so it would dry some on the way back.

  • i have three dry bags, a small one that i use for my cell phone and will start keeping my license in, a mi size one that is like the one pictured that i rarely use, but when I did use it it held a towel and wallet usually just while i was on the beach sunning and enjoying the view.
Then i have a huge one that i havent used in a while but i have used for camping trips on the yak..it holds a sleeping bag and a good four days of clothes and some dry perrishible food(crackers and such)

I have also seen spearos use dry bags as catch bags because they do not leak the blood out into the water and they float once closed.

i generally think they are not needed as we tend to be wet

    i like to spear fish

  • I should have specified which dry bag I had in mind. It's a big one, big enough to fit all your spearfishing gear minus perhaps the fins and speargun. It's meant to hold all your spearfishing gear, wetsuit, mask, knife etc. as you move it from place to place before and after a dive. It's not meant to hold a small part of your gear, a part that you want to stay dry like car keys, cell phone, T-shirt etc. So, what is the purpose of such a dry bag?

The reason I ask is because I don't see the point, yet they are popular. The way I see it all my gear is going to be wet anyways after diving, I prefer a mesh bag so it will drain and dry somewhat by the time I need to unpack it. For the small items that I don't want wet I have a waterproof case.

  • Well, especially in Europe, people have small cars and they have to carry all their gear in the trunk. You can imagine the smell if you put a mesh bag filled with wet gear into that trunk…

A bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day at work.

  • So the purpose of the dry bag is to protect the car from the wet gear ie. to keep the moisture in the bag.

My experience has been that by the time I get my mesh bag to the car everything is already dry to the point that it's not dripping water. What do the rest of you think, dry bag yes or no?

  • I have that bag. It's ummm....HUGE. Too big for local trips. It does keep everything on the outside from getting wet though.
