Hope he gets well soon. I would also use the floatline as a tourniquette.

Update http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/MI140406/ This one pretty much gives all the details (vid).
QuoteCORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) -- A man has been hospitalized with a wound to his arm after his friends said he was attacked by a shark.
"He has nerve damage and muscle tissue was teared off," said Sandy Castaneda.
Castaneda is the brother-in-law of commerical fisherman Dreice Chirino.
"The shark confused the 'cuda with his arm and grabbed his arm instead," said Castaneda.
Lazaro Cabrera, Chirino's fishing partner for more than a decade, said the men were out spear-fishing about two and a half miles out from Elliot Key Wednesday morning. He said Chirino caught a barracuda and when he reached out to get it, a shark, believed to be a 12-foot long bull shark, bit his arm.
That's when the pair rushed to get Chirino medical attention. "He said to me, 'The shark bit me and hard.' We left running," said Cabrera.
Out at sea, with no cellphone service, Cabrera used a rope to tie a last minute turniquette around Chirino's wet suit and what was left of his wounded arm.
Blood splattered all over the boat and Chirino bleeding profusely, Cabrera was concerned about his friend's condition. "He was bleeding and I was concerned he would fall overboard," said Cabrera.
It took 26 minutes for them to reach the boat dock to get help. In that time Chirino lost a lot of blood and then conciousness.
Rescue crews transported him to South Miami Hospital where he underwent extensive surgery. He is expected to be OK. -
Some of what went down has me wondering. I been diving that area for a few years and always had cell phone service. The were said to be in thirty feet of water so they weren't out far. 26 minute to Matheson from that general area is pretty good time, not likely they stopped to use the phone once they were in closer to land. No mention was made of a VHF,with no cell phone service, how was fire rescue waiting at the dock?:confused1:
