Hello From Canada!!

  • Hi Everyone,

My name is Shawn and I am relatively new to the spearfishing game. I have been an avid fisherman since I was little, but I wanted to try a different take on the sport. I enjoy hunting as well, so this seemed like a natural fit for me. The lakes we dive in here in Saskatchewan tend to be fairly shallow ( most are around 50 ft ) , but cold ( avg. 55F in summer ). I have recently purchased and new 5mm wetsuit from Dan and I look forward to submitting some photos/vids to the forum. All of the fish we spear here are native to our province. Walleye, Whitefish, Northern Pike, Burbot, all and Trout Species.

Feel free to say hello or ask any questions you may have...

    Happy Hunting,

    shawno

  • Welcome mate... F-ing EH.. Great bunch of guys here. Looking to you for images of those big northern pike.
    Cheers, Don Paul

  • Thank You everyone for the warm welcome. Our season opens on May 03/10. I look forward to contributing more to the forum at that time...until then I will continue to read and watch those amazing saltwater dive vids the rest of the forum contributes. You guys have a great wealth of info here!! :thumbsup2:

  • Hi guys I'm from Cold Lake, Alberta and am just waiting for the rains to stop so i can go out without completely freezing. Cold Lake has a deepest point of almost 400'. Mostly I like to go to small lakes that are like 20' deep. I enjoy shooting pike, walleye, perch, and burbot.

Other than Shaun (hi btw), how many other people are from Canada, or even Alberta?

    Hey Abid,

Good to have you onboard. Welcome to the forum. There is a great wealth of knowledge on this board. Do you ever fish/spear outside of AB? Cold Lake is super far north...do you work for the military?

    Cheers,

    shawno

  • Ya its pretty far up north, looking to do a 1-3 day trip into sask to spearfish the meadow lake area. I don't work for the military, but i just live here. If you want to plan something and meet up i would be down. I'm fairly new to this and would love a couple of hands on tips. Where exactly do you live in sask?

Meadow Lake are is a nice place to dive...I live in Saskatoon. Let me know when you are heading out that way and I will see if it works with my schedule. There is a group of us in S'toon that freedive. We usually head out to Diefenbaker Lake. It is a big body of water....over 100 miles long about 300ft at its deepest point. PM me if you like...I am by no means an expert, but I might be able to help you out in a pinch.
