I live near Seattle and freedive all around Puget Sound. I have a boat and I also do photography. My most recent trip was out to the Cape Flattery area for some great spearfishing. I just purchased a Gopro video and would like to use it freediving once there is a solution to the underwater distortion.

Welcome to the forum Dave. Cool pics. You're our first member actually diving in that area, should make for some interesting reports and fish pics. Seen any big sharks? Adrian, you should hook up

I spent almost 10 years in the Keys. I miss the warm water but I love diving in Puget sound. You gotta have a good wetsuit though. Thanks for the welcome.
Dave
PS the spearing at Neah Bay was great. Lots of fish.... It is pretty remote.

I may have seen you guys in Neah Bay. I was there at the opening of the ling season (saturday and sunday). I did see a few boats with dive flags but the ones I saw had scuba gear. I also saw a couple of massive sea lions by the outcrops, I thought they were territorial. I can't imagine running into one of those big guys when they are pissed off. We were pulling up halibut in the 60-80lb range that had to be released but we were fishing in 135 ft of water most of the time. I tried the sea bass and it was great, white flaky meat with a mild fish taste. We also caught a bunch of quillback and china rock fish. Here are some of my pictures. Hey Dave I would like to hook up some time and listen to your experiences in the sound.

I wish I had photoshop to enhance the pictures and make the absence of sun less obvious. A few more shots...
-
Don't ask me how both of those star fishes were pulled up on the hooks of the jigs.

Editing those pics would take away from the character of the place, although you know well that I like sunny days too. You've been holding out Adrian, unless by Sat and Sun you mean last Those are some great pics and interesting description of how things are by you. It's true you'd have to be a really avid diver to dive there on a regular basis, due to the cold I'd think and maybe the vis is bad too, but it seems like it could be rewarding. When I lived in Canada I probably wouldn't have considered it, but now I'd rather go and experience diving there on a good day rather than shoot a ton of fish in Bahamas. You'll need a good warm suit though.
Dave, what kind of suits do you use throughout your diving season?
I'd like to put up a forum section for your area if you think you'd like to post some pics and reports there.

These pics were taken on April 17 and 18 I was just too lazy to post plus there was no spearing so I didn't see the relevance but I must say, the landscape of this state is breath taking. I would also like to know the length of the speargun he uses. The smallest thing I have is a 110 RA, I will need another wetsuit. $$$$$$$$

Lets see what Dave has to say about wetsuits.

After checking ALL of his pictures seems like he uses Elios brand, I also saw a Marc Valentin gun in the 90 cm range but I am not sure.
