Quick release weight

  • either 1.5 or 2...it is nice to have one in the yak for the ability to adjust the belt if you need.

I imagine all the days I switch from full suit to shorty or shorty to rashguard and get the weight wrong, this is a nice solution.

  • I have a question..

How long has this type of weight been around?

I ask because I constructed similar style weights from old lead plates from a exercise weight vest sometime late last year and I haven't shared it with anyone..

When I thought it up and made it I felt a lil proud of my cheap ass engineering abilities! :rolleyes1:

Just wanna know who designed it when and if I'm infringing..:confused1: (Thought I was original :()

    Thanks
    ~Frank

  • At least 25 years, Big Jim Christenson sold them through a company called In Depth. I don't know the first
    designer though or have forgot.

  • Some guys on the west coast here just started remaking them and selling them through neptonics and other dive shops. I personally wouldnt make an entire belt out of them, but the are great for what they are designed for especially in so-cal...

You can pull up to a shallow spot for seabass or halibut etc. throw on a bar or two to set your negativity higher and then if you dive YT or deeper water later you can simply just pop one or two off instead of having to re-thread your belt.

Regarding weights, I use and love the newer version of tinmans pinch weights and these fit in nicely with those.
