-
very nice,I do want to move to fl. OH, and get a YAK
-
Thanks for the special thread. Lol I feel like ...
On one of our last spots I dropped in and saw him. I went the around rock around was ventilating quickly like a pig and dropped without finning. I glided to him and as soon as I got close he started to move I took a pretty long shot as I knew this was it. He got on the shooting line and tried to hole up into a rock. I grabbed him and swam up. I think pantoja was putting up the dive flag :Dlol.
Top shooter of the day was sergio. Didnt fail to impress shooting muttons inside holes?? And piling up dead fish.I learned something new about muttons and how they behave when you shoot their friends.:thumbsup2:

Alan-- very nice fish you guys got. Congratulations.
Sure beats my porgies
great pictures also. Thanks -
Nice report. Are there any famous floridian hog fish recipes?
-
monster- any recipe you have for fish or lobster will be great..IMO Hog is better than our spiney lobsters and cooks great in many ways...my three favorites are
1) fillets with skin on. slice the fillets from the back to front (or front to back, just not top to bottom cos it will curl that way) and pan sautee in oilive oil and little butter with a touch of garlic (seriously very little) and then you can really enjoy the natural taste
2) ceviche- i make mine wet and with less cilantro than most, a little closer to crudo I am told, but this is the best fish for either
3) grilled whole over fire- I like it right on the flame or wrapped in a blanched banana leaf to start it off steaming and then grilling as the leaf dries and flakes away (stuff the cavity with chunks (not slices) of lemon and rosemary branches and onions, rub the outside liberally with salt and olive oil mixed into a paste)or any other recipe imaginable

thats some nice fish.:thumbsup2:
i dont like to eat these crevalle jacks, in trinbago they are kinda tuff and very bloody meet.
how you cook that ? -
just regular man. I gave that one to a frien . but the blood don't bother me much. it's very good for the liver anyways. I've done those fish several ways . baked , bttered chunks deep fried , with tomato sauce. most of the time I give them away thoug . I always have hogfish , so , why bother??
-
thats why i dont bother with them as well. if there is better fish to eat.
but they are one hard fighting fish! did you see them in big schools or one one ?
here they love to be in green murky waters. if we see them in clean water, hardly ever get them. -
I think I remember only seeing them in schools tinu. But there may be an occasional single mixed in with other jacks or by itself.
-
Thanks L.B. That´s one fish I really like to eat.
Jacks around here are called Toros, cause they´re strong. They just bleed the fish and boil the meat with some salt, then you dry it a bit, fry it with some onions, garlics and potatoes squares, and eat them along some tortillas de harina with your choice of hot sauce. Don´t forget a beer!
