Just got back from a fun trip to Punta Mita with my brother and my wife.We dove last Wednesday Thursday and Friday. The visibility was not great because of a lot of recent rain, mostly between 15-30ft.Most of the tuna were staying deep but we did get a few shots.I managed to land a nice fat yellowfin about 100lbs and my biggest snapper ever about 40lbs.

also, nice gun racks...very creative little DIY right there

Which operation did you go with down there?
-
We went with Punta Mita Expeditions. They treated us very well.Sebastian runs the operation and he dives and spears along with you which helps a lot because blue water diving is still unfamiliar to me.

I can attest... that their slight angle backwards works well when a gun accidentally discharges. :@

Loaded guns on the boat :nono2:
I agree.
I always say the same... no loaded guns on the boat... but I am not going to lie about my reality. I am completely a hypocrite in that area & it tends to be a "do as I say, not as I do" thing.
I would NEVER ever recommend it, but I've personally done it in certain specific conditions. Especially short drifts when using a 5-band tuna gun. Only when myself and my boatmates have felt 100% okay with it AND the deckhand has a LOT of experience with holding/storing loaded guns. If anyone feels uneasy about it, the guns get unloaded.

Nice fish. Sounds like a solid trip.

It's too bad that it takes a serious accident for some people to really learn this lesson. As we've found out a couple of years ago spearguns are dangerous when stored in the upward pointing direction even when unloaded. A few weeks ago I was on a boat where the guys sat on the transom with the guns loaded as we moved spots. I'm sure it was comical to watch me escape over to the bow. It's considerate of you to accommodate divers who don't feel good about it.

yikes !! loaded tuna cannons above water:@
I trust another spearo's judgment for themselves, for me, there is no reason, but then again I am shooting a gun w two bands and it is a lot easier for me to reload...just be careful buddy
