• Nice fish Dylan, great shot placement, did you shoot him with the Airbalete ?

  • Every time I see a picture of these I think for Art Pinder in that great image with him and a sling.
Sorry my scanner is still down.

  • Thanks Guys!

It wasn't to deep, as the fish are in "shallow" during winter time :D

Don - I was using my 80cm Buechat w/reel, I love using this gun. Hunting with a small gun in clear water really improves your hunting skills.

  • Nice fish! Never dove for them, but I've heard they're quite the challenge! :toast:

They can be. I mean in areas where there's pressure there can be the occasional big hog that will motor away the moment it becomes aware of your presence. I wouldn't call that challenging :) it's simply impossible to shoot such a fish unless maybe it holes up at some distance away where you can see. But in my experience they always keep going until I lose sight of them. Here in Florida I've seen that very few times, hog fish are generally considered very easy prey as they let you get very close, so close that you're wondering whether the fish is even aware of you, but I believe they just choose to ignore divers, fatal mistake.

  • Nice fish! How did you cook it?

Personally i like it grilled. I make a mixture of olive oil, old bay seasoning, salt, pepper, and whatever else you wish, maybe some crushed red peppers. Put the fillets in the mixture for about an hour. Turn on the grill, just about as hot as you can get it. Keep pouring the mixture over the fish while on the grill. The finished product is a charred/grilled spicy taste with white flakey meat. Don't forget the lime wedges either!

I would agree Dan, the small ones are dumb. However, the big ones aren't big for nothing.

Yup I was talking about the big dudes. Our CA sheephead is the same way, all the 12-18" you can shake a stick at, but the big guys (and gals!) are the challenge.
