So Cal Wet Dream

  • Its the title of my latest video.

All local diving in open areas that will soon be closed. All the places I have dove recently have been going off the hook.

Went out today and saw a school of 10-15 wsb all in the 15-20# class, unfortunately with the shitty vis, they were gone just as quickly as they appeared.

First clip, there is a yellowtail which was a huge surprise for me. Look for it, it comes through more than once..

  • Very nice vid Davis,:thumbsup2: you can always swim with them after the MPLA ....just with a camera
and not a gun. One door closes and another opens.

  • Don it is funny you said that...I have held back from making a comment to try and point out a silver lingin to ths horseshit closure, but didnt' want to make it seem like i took the closure lightly .

there is a protected area in the upper keys call pennycamp park, it is a truly magical place to dive because there is almost no evidence of man's footprint and the fish are so brazen they are retarded..I had a 8# hog literally swim into me once...it is really annoying to dive there sometimes because my finger spasms for a trigger to pull but it is a nice place to dive.

a tiny bit of silver in a very grey cloud

    i like to spear fish

  • Yeah Pennecamp was the States first underwater park in 1960...even before I started diving..;)

  • Thanks guys. The yellowtail is just a bit early, water temps are still low and I've never seen one in Laguna.

Look forward to freediving this area in a few years. As upset as I am about the closures, it will produce some epic dive spots.

  • I didn't see the YT. Nice video though. What time are the in the video?

They are all in the first clip. The leader of the pod of 3 in the opening clip is a yellow. Watch when it pulls off to the right. It gives a decent broadside. Pause it and you can see the forked tail and dual color body. At about 1:05, you can see a shadow off in the distance. Impossible to ID from the video, but it was a YT.

  • What kinda camera/ housing were you using? Is that a wide angle lens? Nice clip..

GoPro 960 with Mako flatlens. Just got it for my birthday. I need to adjust the camera in the housing to try and cut down the porthole look.

  • Thanks for sharing the vid. Was that a WSB at the very end 3:50? It took off incredibly fast.

This is the first time I see a Gopro video with a Mako flat lens. As you may know Mako copied the Pursuit/Aquapixs lens even though it is patent pending. On one hand I'm sympathetic to the disappointment that you must feel because of the strong vignetting effect, on the other hand I'm happy that Mako produces an inferior flat lens. Using the Pursuit lens you will barely notice the vignetting at that resolution.

As a remedy I offer that sometimes people tighten down the Gopro bezel screws too much when they install the flat lens. This results in the rubber gasket under the lens being compressed and expanding into the field of view of the camera. The solution is to back off the screws a little, or trim the rubber gasket from the inside. In your case however it seems that the lens frame is visible with the vignetting, so I don't think it can be fixed, only by cropping the video.

Yes it was a white sea bass. The smaller ones can dart around.

Dan is a good business man, so I deleted this response. It was a bit too harsh, and my apologies. Look forward to more footage soon, with a Pursuit flat lens.
