Coincidence or have we angered the spearfishing gods?

  • In what seems like less than two weeks many a trip were ruined by boats breaking down. Pantoja's boat broke down, some hydraulic BS. Jim's boat's engine broke down 90ft from the dock, trip canceled. Rolo was out today and his friend's boat had engine problems, trip canceled. I'm sure I remember there were one or two more can't remember who's boat. My boat didn't break down cause I don't have a boat. But I'm sure that shit would be on mind if I did have a boat and was going out, and then maybe my boat would break down too. At least these things are happening not far out at sea.

  • We went out last Friday on a friend of Jim's boat. We had engine trouble on the way out and couldn't continue.

    What happened to Sergio's boat?

  • I see this as a blessing. You weren't to far out to get into trouble or into a situation that would have caused you some serious $$$$$$. The Gods are just prepping you for good things to come. They want you, and your boats, to be ready.:D

  • I find it odd that this string of engine problems have been occuring since E10 gasoline has been incorporated now into every gas station. My engine started having trouble shortly after I started using this gas.

  • I've had many boats. The best boats I had were ones I bought new. I have spent literally years working on boats of all types. Grinding, painting, sanding, fixing and buying parts for. I have spent days in the water to lift boats off the bottom to the surface with pumps and innertubes and barrels. All this has given me a greater appreciation of those who do have a boat. All this leads me to never wait to be asked for my share from a captain because I fully understand boat ownership. The ëxpenses" most private captains request never covers the real expenses of boat ownership.

  • A little off topic, but what's gas at in Miami. We find it here at $2.15 in some places,(I'm in San Diego)
    Thanks Dan......

  • got out yesterday Saturday 11/15,on Hubert's boat

trip sucked and had to return with one engine, it took us 3 hours to get to marina

Last week I was out and we were escorted back to the ramp by Seatow after the boat did not turn over around noon time. On Friday, the boat stalled about 200 yards from the boat ramp and we just swam it back.

this could be pure coincidence, although it seems very odd.

hubert told me, last weekend they were out off key west on a friends boat,

ran out of gas in the marquesas, then were escorted in by sea

tow, and also hit a ground coming in. they had to jump in the muck and push the boat out about 500 yards.

  • It was on odd day overall, we made a stop on a wreck in 140 ft, where i was going to make a quick drop 10

min drop on scuba alone. I am certified but haven't dove in years, especially at that depth.

    I decided not to go.

  • Why did you decide not to do it? I was faced with a similar situation at Tenneco towers when we tried to recover a lost shaft. My biggest problem was that I didn't weigh myself properly and had to continuously kick to not float back up. I was diving head down and legs up the whole time. I did the ascent and the safety stops the same way, kicking towards the bottom so as not to rise to the surface too fast. Of course that was maybe 100' max depth.

something told me not to, i was faced with the opportunity 3 times, there were also groupers 40-70 lb around the wreck. a friend of ours is an expereinced tech diver, and was on board. he told me just dont spend more than 10 min total dive time, and youll be ok.

I don't think any fish is worth your life, i still havent accomplished many things in life yet.

I decided not to throw the dice.

  • I agree that you should start shooting smaller fish at shallower depths on scuba if you're experienced. But you could have gone down just to take a look. Scuba is easy you just have to keep track of the time.
