Then I'll recommend you the Garmin GPS 72. It's the most basic but it's the standard, has everything you'll need and it's waterproof. I still keep it in a watertight pouch but I'm not worried if it falls in the water. You can find them for under $100 http://www.adorama.com/GPG72.html?sid=1239589273646612

pargo---I agree. The 72 will do everything a yak spearo needs.
I keep mine in a drypk like Stevo did, but may now change to a hard pelican case. -
hard case may be a good idea. when i was getting off the yak the gps was on my side and agaist the clip that holds my seat, a little preasure and the dry pac tore. didnt notice till it was too late. I have since taken gps apart and rinsed it in fresh water, its gonna dry for a few days and i will try it out again. I have done this to meatal detectors with some luck so we will c.
-
stevo---hope you get your GPS working again. I hate loosing or breaking gear. It can get expensive very quick. I am still morning loosing a $5. chum bag to a shark:(
The second reef at Dania pier is offering us a lot better spearin than the 1st reef. We can yak to the 2nd reef in 20-25min easy.
Yesterday would have been a good day to go to the 3rd reef with the flat seas and little current and wind we had <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x"> -
Hard case defeats the purpose. You can't use the GPS through the hard case.
-
spearos---the beach cams show flat seas now [4-15 at 845am]. Me and Scott are meeting up at Dania at 11am if anyone would like to join us. Any and all are welcome. The dive plan will be posted in the usual place. Looks like a 2nd reef day.

The smiley looks great in your sig hau

-
pargo---yes, I really like my smiley
Thank you:) -
At Dania pier beach today
begin at 11am--------------------end at 430pm
wind from SE at 5mph-----------from W at 15mph
current from S at maybe 1/2mph--from S at 2mph
viz was 25f in 20fsw------------same
seas flat--------------------------3f in 20fsw
air temp. 78F, cloudy-----------82F PCMe and Scott at Dania pier 2nd reef today and ended on the 1st reef
Scott and I went out to the 2nd reef and dropped anchor directly on the 2nd reef. We hunted and hunted and never even saw a shootable fish on the 2nd reef. We voted to go in to the 1st reef, Scott yaked in and I swam in. I shot a 16in hog, a spade, 4 chubs and then a 39in King committed suicide by trying to glide right past my face on the first reef
He was so close that I had to pull my RA120 up slow to not hit him. The second I squezzed the trigger i grabbed my shaft line and overhanded to the flailing King. Somehow I got my left thumb and fingers in his throat and both legs wrapped around him. His teeth and fins cut my wetsuit in several places before I could get my right hand free to get my knife. He beat me up pretty good before I could make him quiet. I rushed to the yak with my left hand still in his throat and got him in the fish bag befor I could believe that I really got him. I will try to get pictures posted tomorrow.
We are going to Dania pier again tomorrow if anyone wants to join us. Any and all are welcome. -
A pic would've been very appropriate. Who eats the chubs?
-
pargo---sorry, I was so tired last night I typed a reply then must have not clicked the submit button.
The Korean, Vietnamese, Phillipino and India girls I work with will eat anything
I will try to follow your instructions on how to post a picture later today when we get back from spearin.
I had to clean the King in my bathtub:0
ThanksI like your new avitar much better

-
Hau, you are truely the man...a king on the reef :O
i hope he didn't treat you too rough old man, ha, yeah right, you're the toughest spearo out there
pics would be really appropriate, even a cell phone pic

at Dania pier beach again today
begin at 9am----------------------end at 630pm
wind from N at 5mph-------------from NNE at 18mph
water temp 75F in 20fsw
current from N at 1/2mph-------from N at 2 1/2mph
viz 25f in 15fsw-------------------25f in 45fsw
seas flat like a pond--------------3f and building
air temp 67F PC------------------84F PCMe and Scott started on the 1st reef, then went to the 3rd reef as the wind and seas were flat, but the viz on the 3rd reef was only 25f in 45fsw:(.
So we came in to the 2nd reef and the viz was still 25f in 25fsw so we came back in to the 1st reef again and started shooting small reef fish. I got 3 hogs, 3 spades, 2 chubs and 3 triggers. Scott got some fish also, hope he posts.
Saw one big mack for 3 sec before he dissapeared into the haze.
Saw several big nurse sharks. An outside spearo in the parking lot said they had to kill a moray eel that was eating their fish:0
It was a beautiful day for yak spearin
-
I looked at the camera today at 3.00 East coast time. Wow what a nice day..Glad you guys had another safe and productive day.
-
Toledo970---yes we are very, very lucky.:)
I love yak spearin here in the Miami area.:)
Yesterday was a prime example of why I love yak spearin here.
1. Me and Scott each paid $5. to spear all day.
2. Bad viz at the 3rd reef didn't mean we couldn't get fish in shallower water.
3. I can get up and be in the water in less than 1 hour any day, any time.
4. My last boat [yak] cost was a month ago when I paid $9. for a compass to glue onto my yak.
5. If someone has to quit early they can just go in and I can keep spearin.
6. My flag and boat [yak] is never more than 100f from me.
on and on

pargo--not to worry. After I got done cleaning that King in the tub I had a major clean up to do

I don't think greekdiver would approve of my food preparation technique.:)
The landlord painted all the sinks and tub before I moved in, the color is where the paint has been scrubbed off:(
That King is the best fish I have gotten up here in Miami since July 08:) -
