Broward Beach Conditions

  • 9-18.
    Meade St
    Had to abort todays spearin
Woodshooter got roller several times trying to get through the surf and he lost some gear :(
I came back in to help look for his gear and got in ok but later while we were walkin the surf looking for his gear I got knocked down by the surf and lost my glasses :(
Glad I didn't lose my iPhone

  • I do but loosely with bungees mostly, enough to keep things in place but being rolled several times is enough to knock items that seem secure pretty loose. I'm not sure how these guys do it.

Stopped at the first reef to check on Cesar, beach spearo. He had 2 small macs and had just started.
I went to 2nd reef and limited out on hogs, 3 good macs, 1 schoolmaster and 4-5 small jacks:D
I watched a 5f eagle ray swim in to check me out :cool2:

TONS of pink jelly fish. My face and hands are still swollen:(

Cesar had a "BIG" hammer head come in on him on the 1st reef and bit off his fish on a stringer at his flag float.
He said he got a big jerk on his float line and then saw the hammer make a full 360deg circle around him with his dive flag sticking out his mouth:0
Cesar had to quit an go in cause he had no flag /; float/ stringer after the attack

  • Me and fishingdude at Dania pier from 830 til 3pm
fishingdude did great with his new bug toys He would work those coral heads clear down on the bottom and when a hog got curious and came around I'd drop down and shoot em :attack2:
We even double teamed a hog or two :toast:
I found a spot with dumb fish and lucked out and got 5 hogs, 2 muttons and 2 dogs:D
It stormed North of us, then West of us, then South and finally a big storm head formed East of us and we had to hoist anchors and flee for the pier. We made landfall just ahead of the storm surge :0
The incoming storm scared off all the beach buns but at least we got our gear rinsed off

  • Dan---yes. It is possible because we just use the yaks to get to and from spearing spots.
I have towed spearos behind my yak several times to aid a swimmer to get out to where we were going to spear.
Many times once we are at a spot we will drop anchor and just swim around in the vacinity of the yaks while spearin. Most times once we get our gear on and jump in we almost never remove our spearin gear and paddle unless we are going to change reefs.
Once we start hunting we just lift our anchors off the bottom and swim towing our yaks behind us if we are moving up or down the reef.

I ALWAYS have a SPARE yak on the truck incase someone wants to go with us.

  • I never did a trip distance calculation on the yaks. It would not be to hard to measure since mainly our yak distance is from point A at the beach to point B at the dive spot of the day and back. Our GPS lat/lon numbers would provide that distance.
I do know that we generally average 4mph OUT to a spearin spot and 5mph BACK to the beach. This is because we try to pick a spearin sport of the day so that we return WITH the waves and wind.
