Met up with two younger spearos and we went out to the second reef, but there were very few fish today.
I lucked out an got 1 19inch hog, 1 mutton an one porgy

  • Conditions were excellent today although the water is getting a little too cold for a rashguard and board shorts. I got off of work early and worked inside the first reef with a new spearo/snorkeler, got a 20.25" grouper (i thought he was bigger but at least he was legal), a small mac, and 2 very nice lobster including a new PB.

Hau- not trying to hijack your thread just wanted to add N. broward conditions. I hope this is OK

  • mrmike---I'm very glad to see someone else post sir. I was starting to get lonely. AND, your pictures are great also. Keep them coming. Maybe your pictures will take the heat off me. Nice fish and post sir. Congratulations

Today was another near perfect yak freedinging spearfishing day
Today even had less race boats than yesterday. It can be exciting to be 1 - 2 miles off shore with a yak and watch one of those race boats get closer and closer
I saw a school of 8-10 hogs today. I thought I was hallucating until my spear hit the biggest one I strung him and then couldn't find the school again. I ended the day with 4 hogs and the biggest one was 21inches.
Quitting time came WAY to early today. I could have stayed in the water till dark shootin fish

will do. I don't know how you always find the hogs, I see one every now and then but they are usually very small. I see lots of macs up this way and its weird because if I troll the reefs in the boat i get spanish and when I spear i usually only see cero, and can only ever shoot the smallest.

hau has a secret hogfish call that brings the hogs in and gets them to give him a broadside window pane shot on them lol!

BTW, you catch more cero trolling because you're covering more ground. And if you think about you're 25ft of viz that you usually have, you're only seeing a small portion of what is out there.

Today started out good an got worse by the hour.
I had a little lung problem 2 days ago so today was a shallow/easy day.
I paddled out to some numbers I had, dropped anchor and went over the side, loaded my ETPG and swam maybe 5min and saw a nice 19in hog. I put him in the yak then swam for an hour before seeing another shootable fish. Later I noticed the wind and seas changing and the viz dropped to less than 25f. I swam back to the yak and noticed a storm cell building right on top of me :(
With about a mile to go the wind shifted to 18mph from the west which made for a much harder paddle in to the beach. :(

  • This does not look good for us :(

    1. The ocean respects nothing
    2. When you get old like me it takes longer to heal. I'm getting better each day. Getting in the water today was a MAJOR step compared to the last to days of coughing up blood. Thanks bro :toast:

  • Doesn't sound great buddy but you just heal up. The reports keep me going. For real, I have spent ao much time in the water w you that I can visualize your reports as if I was there <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x"> a true blessing for me

    i like to spear fish

  • went out tonight from 4:45-7ish, visibility was dropping to under 20' I didn't see any fish in the daylight hours, found a half dozen lobsters but only one was legal unfortunately. He was my only catch today before i was really uncomfortable in the dark and came in. hopefully conditions improve soon.

  • Thank you for the kind words brothers
I called a couple of my old mentors and they both agreed that if I recompressed that most of the symptoms should go away. I was a a little worried as I drug my yak across the beach with 4 stops to catch my breath. It was a very shallow breath up the first drop, but that stupid hog made me forget the pain and every drop after that got easier and less painful. Before I knew it, I had been in the water 6 hours :imok:
