Forecast of 5-7f seas was a lie.
Where I entered and exited there was almost no surf.
I only saw 2 shootable fish and had to quit early for a class.
Just wish I could have stayed longer and put more than 2 fish in the yak
Got a new toy I'm testing out. MM -
Sounds like I should have gone where Putmeincoach was today.
He did WAY better than me :toast2: -
Hau I only saw one shootable fish today and I friggin missed. Water is too cold for me to continue this year in my rash guard and board shorts, I had to go in early today because I was freezing. Unfortunately I won't have any money for a wetsuit anytime soon because my transmission crapped out on me on the way home. I will report back when I'm shooting fish again.

Today was an almost perfect weekend yak sprearin day.
I only saw 2 shootable male hogs an 1 ok mac all morning an put them in the cooler.
I saw macs FLYING today.
The whole time I was out there and above the water (paddling in and out, gearing up, etc.) I saw macs FLY. They would fly out of the water so fast that it seemed like they went 20yds airborn. I saw this happen at least 2 dozen times today and it was impressive
I saw so few fish that when I did finally see and shoot a fish one very hungry nurse shark came right in so close she ran into my right ice blade.
I love yak freedive spearin :yay: -

water temp 74F
air 60F 0 clouds overhead ---82F 10% clouds overheadOMG I hope I wasn't the only one that got out and speared this near perfect weekend day
Conditions were so good I went straight out to the 3rd, looked down and made sure to drop my anchor in the sand. The viz was so good that I could see my anchor drop while I sat in the yak. As soon as I slid in the water I rotated a 360 in the water just in time to see 2 BIG macs or kings swim out of view. I made 3 or 4 drops at 60fsw and realized that 60fsw was a little deep for my condition so I paddled across the sand desert to the 2nd reef and shot a 18 in hog and a porgey before I had to quit for the day. -

Got out w a buddy who had never dove and shallowrunner today.
Pretty much perfect conditions but everything else was working against us. I have a few pics and I'll tell the full story when I'm at the computer. I hate phone tuping

So here is the longer version. My buddy Eddie has wanted to go diving for some time and it was his birthday weekend so we made it happen this morning....Unfortunately it was his birthday weekend so his earlier weekend activities hardly helped him out. this was coupled with the fact that he had 1970's era Aqualung jet fins that weighed about 3 lbs each and tore his feet apart.
we had great sun, good vis (30-40ft) and very little current.
My mutton curse continues as I missed two shots that should have connected when the fish did a random change of direction right as I shot...Grrrr
hit a 2.5ft cero high in the head and he tore right off and hauled ass.
got to chill with this nice turtle for a while so it was cool....cant beat a turtle
it was nice to get in the water.
The dive board rules!! not only does it track great and hold all my stuff, after Eddie puked and felt sick he basically laid on it for about 40 minutes and it was fine..took on no water. A+
our east coast guns are a little too long for it but I think a little rigging will help to balance them out on future dives
enjoy eddie's fins

-
i forgot the other things that were wrong...the gopro case was rendered unusable because the part of it that closes it is gone...my girlfriend cleaned my apt over thanksgiving and doesnt remember anything but it is gone now so I need a replacement or a whole new housing

a suit was a lot more comfortable than i was in a rashguard last week
the Real Sea suit looked good in this water

-
Nice report. Why no dive flag?
-
Of course you spotted that. I have yet to find a good material to act as my flagpole. I had my lifeguard can too. So that was my flag. And of course shallowrunner had his as well
Actually had a boat that came pretty close but he slowed way down and had a spotter on the bow pointing us all out the whole time. Very courteous boating.
-
The pole from Home depot doesn't fit?
-
no, it will fit but it is not a perfect solution...the flag mount would love a 1/2inch tube but that would require me adjusting my flags...i think a fishing rod blank would be perfect and I have yet to scour through my junk bins.
here is a "bigfoot sighting" quality pic of the lifeguard can

as hau said.. very good conditions, except last year we got to break into the cold gradually, today was kind of a shock to the system. i got one really big trigger,, its not the reef kind its like the open ocean kind,, and a wimpy hog. not a whole lot of fish to be seen, maybe they were shallower. had a beasty size nurse follow me around for quite a distance
-
please post a pic of the trigger if you can, I had to pelagic-like triggers follow me the other day. they were about 10' below the surface in 35-40' of water. Their were 2 of them and the would come in and out of view every couple of minutes.
