Who's grabbed a shark before? - video

  • So I've been trying to hand grab a leopard shark for a while now. I'm not much of a shark eater, I just like the challenge of grabbing them.

While I was out with tailsufer today I grabbed a nice sized one. Wasn't really looking to hold him for very long, since I don't eat sharks and Josh was no where in sight. If I was serious about it I would have dropped my gun and used two hands to hold the shark steady. Then flip it upside down, putting him to sleep. But I was just fooling around this time with a one hand grab.

Anyways.... who else has grabbed a shark before? Got any video or pics?

  • If your not going to eat them why......haven't you seen Christmas Story?
    You'll put your eye out!

Plus...your gloves now smell like piss.

  • Years ago I grabbed a Horned shark and it didn't like it too much, it came at me a couple times before leaving.

  • Haha I like to think of it as catch and release. So far this is my persona best :D

:laughing3: but now when people ask me why my wetsuit smells like piss I'll tell em it's shark piss cause I can't keep my hands off them in the water

I wonder how much damage their little mouths could do?

  • I've grabbed small leopards, horns of all sizes, and an angel shark. Never been brave enough to grab onto a soupfin though... The big bull horn sharks get aggressive. I had one attacking my fins for a solid minute before returning to the bottom. A few months ago I had the go pro running so, feeling dumb and young, I put my finger (gloved) in a very small horn sharks mouth just so I could say I've been bit. ;) It stayed latched for close to a minute, light pressure. although when chicks ask to see a scar I'll point to something different... Plus my go pro sd card maxed out so I don't have it on film.

Wow intentionally sticking your finger in a sharks mouth. Now that's something I haven't tried yet :D

So did the horn shark rip your glove at all? And did it make you more or less worried about getting bit by a bigger one?

Bummer you didn't get that on film, looks like you need to find yourself another horn shark XD

  • Never grabbed a shark before but I caught a horn shark on hook and line once it was a double hook up with a buddy of mine. When we landed them we could not get the hooks out of there mouths caused they clamped so tight and would not let go. I have heard lots of story's of divers playing with puffer fish in Hawaii and to be surprised when the fish swam and bit the tip of there finger off. I figure I will let the sharks be if the puffers have teeth.

  • I grabbed one of the biggest horn sharks I came across a few years ago . I had the gun in one hand and got a crappy grab so when he started squirming I brought it into my chest to give it a bear hug so I wouldn't lose it. Its mouth landed right on my man boob and he clamped down like a vise. I broke the surface screaming like a girl. Even after I let go of the shark it wouldn't let go, the thing was actually sort of chewing on me. After 15 or 20 seconds I finally was able to rip it off. Left a really nice bruise for a while...

  • Okay. You guys are officially nutso. Of course I have seen Hau dive bomb and wrestle a nine foot nurse shark just to get his 1.99$ chum bag back. Hahahaha

    i like to spear fish

  • Nope no tears, although the Lycra looks like some one used it as Velcro. It just looks slightly fuzzy, but the whole glove looks like that now anyways from being used so much.

  • thank,s but I'm not braver than the average...

In my modest opinion, it need's first to be confident in the face to face... to think before the attempt " if the tiger attack me, it will finish the job and I'll be dead"... then to forgot immediately you thought that, while you'r focusing on the shark reaction during the attempt.
