I gotta see this. I don't think it will be easy.

Yeah you would know, It will definitely be one of the last things before the boat gets wet. I found a place in England that has many custom colored hypalon fabric or I could flex paint. I'm good with a scalpel knife and patterns. The black outline would not be carried over.

Hydrotek Marine Plywood is manufactured utilizing BS 1088 specifications, it is a multiply type construction, with balanced internal plys and thick (1mm before sanding) face veneers, and water proof phenolic glue. It is made using a stiff and strong wood specie which when put together, yield a very good quality marine panel.
Meranti/Keruing Mahogany ply is my first for a strong deck core, this wood is 3/4'' with 13 plys.
In materials, BS 1088 is the British Standard specification for marine plywood that applies to plywood produced with untreated tropical hardwood veneers that have a set level of resistance to fungal attack. The plies are bonded with Weather Boil Proof (WBP) Glue.First the ply was cut to length, then Port and Starboard edges were milled to 17degrees top and 21 degrees bottom edge. These angles were chosen to match the stock aluminum deck slats on the roll up floor. I chose to go with a solid deck as I will not be launching the uninflated boat from a submarine tube or hatch.;) Next I used a coarse file to dress corners and blend a rounded outer edge, followed by a quick sand with 180 paper. I wrapped the wood in black plastic in the sun until I had 115 degree wood and waited till late afternoon when air temps were on the decline. This opens the pores in the wood slightly to except the epoxie also lowering bubbles that are formed when the base wood is rising in temp after epoxy is applied.
I use this same process when applying any top coat on wood.
This weekend I will be epoxie sealing both sides, followed by a bedliner system tinted military green.
Black was my first choice but my wife may talk me into a lake trip some day. :laughing3::laughing3:Cheers, Don

This post is dedicated to the thousands of boat builders and fisherman around the globe that do hard work on boats in unbearable heat with minimal tools. Many times I build things with un powered basic hand tools to remind myself how easy we have it here in the states. Today I left the safe, conformable air conditioned environment to reconnect with hell.
My temp boat house is a black roofed storage unit that has no power and is as hot as hell ! Never lay down epo in direct hot sun. The sun will heat the wood releasing trapped air bubbles from the grain. Today it was 104 in my work area. I woke up and made many excuses to myself that this weekend would be too hot to work, I should just stay home or head to the pool. :cool2:
Then I thought about the boat builders in Cuba, Mexico, Caribbean and the outback.....what a pussy I am.;)So...off the couch armed with a chunk of straight yellow oak, some 180 open sand paper, ice chest of water and 70bucks of ResinResearch performance surf board epoxy and slow catalyst. I got some shite done.
Taped out the Gflex edges, hand sanded the marine ply from 3 angles to give the wood a good key for the epoxy to grab to. Next hand brushed and swatted the dust away, scrubbed the surfaces with acetone before laying down a sealer coat with a plastic spreader.
Tomorrow the heat wave continues and so will the next work opps, which will be sand and recoat top/bottom, and sand again before laying down mil green tinted bed liner to the topside.Cheers, Don

What is the green coating?

What is the green coating?
2 layers of green tinted 3 part Raptor truck bed liner that I poured on and distributed with a plastic spreader, then used a foam roller twice before tack to control texture.

The green is going to look even better with some red on it.
Nice work man.

Really coming along beautifully! You think that will be enough non skid traction, or are you adding something else?

Took some time off to have some fun with my son. Back at it this weekend locating the 2- 4.25'' aft deck plates holes.
I will use these to thru bolt the radar arch base plates after I complete fab of the arch. Tomorrow I will seal the exposed hole wood with a couple coats of epoxy. Another inspection plate will live under the console to install thru bolts to mount the console base to the deck.Cheers, Don

Went with this for a seat and Guinness storage unit. Walmart @ 54 bucks. If someone swipes my ''Getto Yeti'' while I'm down current half a click. I wont be as pissed off.
The shape and dimensions were very important to allow a flooded deck clear sea water.
Please excuse the sawdust .....dirty boat.....dirty mind.:D
Cheers Don
