Wow nice work - always wanted to do up an old inflatable or RIB.
Been saving pics of things that would work well on one - Heres some of a cool gun/fin rack

Cool, that is similar to what will be the radar/gun rack on mine, I'm also playing with the idea of having the barrels vertical.

Made some progress this weekend but too tired to post much tonight.
I was going to '' run what ya brung'' with the old school Mercury Commander control box (that faced the wrong way for a right side console mount) but bit the bullet and sourced a flush mount Morse. Now every thing that controls the boat is in the weather proof console.
I was happy the cops didn't stop by due to a noise complaint as the chips were flying as a fitted it into the console top face.
Now I need a nice fat Martini after this 12hr day.;)

You've earned it, enjoy!
I feel like the guy that bought the S class Mercedes, but it wont fit in the garage. I fell in love with that new old stock Morse flush top mount unit because it was lighter the the old mecrcury box and only cost a C-note.
Now I'm paying the ''buy now see if it fits later'' price. The Morse cable levers are fighting with the steering rack over just 6 mm of arc even after messaging the metal a wee bit ( 2hr) I guess I'll be doing some geometry and math with the throttle and gear levers ....there's always a way.;) One step forward two steps back..... typical Mil surplus boat build.:D
Cheers, Don
Good luck with it.
Thanks, I'll be braking out the belt sander Thur night...found 7mm of extra wt on the ends of the levers I don't need.
Later..
Don
always so funny how there is like 8 inches of room where you dont need it but you lack mm where you do need it......how does it always work like that

So true my friend, when I measured @ the store the unit was in the OMC orientation. I guess I could buy another motor.;) I'm going call my buddy's Tig and Dewalt.:
To make matters worse, my Canadian GF is flaunting her British roots and is planning a Opening Summer Games party at the house. I wounder if I need to come in from the garage?:rolleyes1:

Hahahaha. Good excuse to show off the grill skills
:thumbsup2: como siempre, exclente thread
Lookin good!
Installed a thick 2x3 foot keel guard over the weekend, I use a 3M glue stick to remove excess glue instead of solvent which could seep under the edge and weaken the bond.
The hull is getting close to having the keel glued back in.
Metal surgery begins on on the throttle and shift arms, Morse assembly is trial fit .:thumbsup2: Just need to do a little Ti angle bracket to marry the control housing to the rack unit.
The joy stick is for the trim tabs, tomorrow I'll Tig some SS bits for the radar arch.
Heading for a cold Stella.......
Cheers, Don
that tight fit makes me want to take a deep breath and suck in my gut
looks nice
I fabricated a stout 90 deg steel bracket tying the Morse control to the steering rack.
After another trial assemble including cables I was able to operate the outboard from the console.
Tig welded the twin tube bases for the A-frame or radar arch.
Mounted the starboard running light, coil of wire is for the strobe/all around Lt.and port/starboard Lt.
The radar arch will get sanded and painted matt black anti static.
Another late night...I'm beat....time for a frosty.
Cheers, Don
Arch light cable orange lead is for the spot light, plugs will be cut off and all leads silicon inner heat shrinked.
I'm really enjoying the progression of this project, thanks for keeping it coming. aaalllmmmoossttt as cool as the airbalete :cool2:
Thanks mate, that means alot. My little project would have been in the water this month had I bought a tiller 50
hp outboard. It is very tuff to dive hard for 8hrs than sit on a rubber pontoon twisted sideways and pound home in average seas 30miles eating every white cap in the face, Ive done it when I was young and look forward to sitting in a seat and hiding behind a windshield blasting Rage Against the Machine.:thumbsup2:
