The Adventures of Thumper

  • Taking a lunch break after a early start...

When I mocked up the size of the console I wanted room to walk past, so I kept it narrow. The first steering helm I set up for was rotary type but when I held it in my hand I said ''Dam what a boat anchor'' and went with the lighter rack unit. This lead to having it stick out 2 '' from the fiber glass....time for the hole saw, this is a non Cad build, more '' grind as necessary to fit''. Here is a unused helm cover and flex boot that I took the die grinder to. It also provides a great place for the motor kill switch and lanyard. These switchs fail at times so I put it in a place that I can access quickly to disable if necessary. The camera makes the 5'' unit look huge.:D

  • Battery box is now fab'ed, along with bolt on tube support struts for the Ross VHF and meda player, hardware is just for mock up and will be changed out. Once again I'll try to get back on track and finish sand and prep for the matt black epoxie top coat.

    Cheers, Don

  • Scored some more Tupperware from the galley.:thumbsup2: I hate this shite in the kitchen and swipe it every chance I get.:reddevil:

Finished the radar arch floor base plates, larger OD tubing will slip over the stubs and form the mid-arch before sizing down to 1'' tubing at the arch top section.

Mounted the speedo, one more 3-1/4 hole to cut for the tach on the top face....before positioning the water proof switch and beaker panel on the port side of the wheel. That back coating is just a fabric dye I use for lay up, it will be sanded off.

    Time for a frosty...:toast:

  • At the rate I'm going it may be Saltwater Cock-a-Roachs.;)

Thanks guys, that recipe looks good, but I would want to control what they eat before they hit the Wok.

    Cheers, Don

  • Waiting for my electrical panel and switches, ICOM vhf and other bits to arrive. Started reshaping a kelp cutting bullet nose I had laying around for a Mercruser drive. These nose cones are best for boats hitting 70mph not
30...kelp wont stand a chance. I may lose a 1 or 2 mph due to more wetted area, I'll sea trial a few props first.

I had a chance to weigh the console with radar head, steering and most gear in place, hit close to my target of 60 lbs without the wind screen fabricated yet. Speakers, audio amp and wiring will add another 10lb.

    Cheers, Don

  • Never seen a kelp cutter either, scratching my head tying to figure out where it mounts ....hummmmmm

It will be contoured to fit the lower gearcase extending the bulge in front of the propshaft center line.
