Hood or no hood?

  • I didn't know Chuck Norris was a spearo.....nice.....:D

Here's that same boyscout trying to find coconut milk and seabird eggs when a yank asshole left me stranded for a few days.

I have had a couple drinks with Chuck (Carlos) back when he had a waterfront bar in NewPort Beach, after he split with his wife, she got it and I didn't go there any more. Chuck was really a amazing martial artist. I have a cover shot from Black Belt Mag in 1971 with Chuck throwing a very high spinning back kick, he could easily knock a guy out with one punch. He was the real deal than, when he bare handed in Las Vegas.

    Cheers, Don

  • He takes pics with Buzz Aldrin, has drinks with Chuck Norris.. I know people have joked in the past about you being XX's most interesting man in the world, Don.. but it's completely plausible.

Hood or no hood.. lately I only wear a hood if I'm freezing, just can't trust the boats. I do prefer wearing a hood though.

  • The warmest water I have ever dove in was 65 degrees, one weekend I spent down south with my sister in Newport last year. I am sure there are some people who could tough it out without a hood around where I dive, but not many. Wish I had the option though.

  • I agree Nate and Marco. A toast to a life very well lived, in progress!! To 120 don!

As for the topic. I realize that I use the good on my rashguard a lot. I think this is because it is thinner and water passes through so there is better hearing. I also suspect it has to do with the summer. I wear the rashguard in the summer when the sun is BRUTAL down here. Having the extra shade and no sun on my neck prevents burns and makes me more comfortable.

    i like to spear fish

  • I hear you on the sun issue. I'm as fair skinned as they come. Mother was Scottish with freckles head to toe, brother and sister with red hair. I try to cover as much of my body as I can and I still come home fried on my face....even though I gob on the sunblock before I go out.

  • I would love to have a drink with Don.

Mybe some day. I'll buy it! ;)

I enjoyed a drink and a discussion with Don one night. He leaves you with a good feeling. He is the real deal himself. No bullshit, No plumped up fish stories, No attitude, No arrogance. A real man who shares his wealth of knowledge without reservation. You would have trouble finding a topic that he does not have a high level of knowledge of. I was moved by his generosity and trust. The one and only Don Paul. :toast::toast:

Those of you who got to hear him speak in San Diego at the "Legends of Spearfishing" in 2011 at J and J know what a good story teller he is also. A great memory I have.

  • I hope Gabriel's hood question was answered, because I've really Goat Flecked his thread.
Thank you Dusty for the nice words:toast::toast:.....but my chick was looking over my shoulder and read your post......
Now she wants to get married on Catalina in April.:) God hates a coward, so I said OK.

But wait.....Now she watched Dan's post from the legends and say's '' Your always going to love the sea more than me right''?

So I had to promise her the cold wintery and rainy days are all about you baby.;) ''I'll even let you ride in the boat sometimes.''

    Cheers, Don
