Dan you use the one piece wishbones right? Not the loops and replaceable bones
I have gone through and looked at a lot of pics and I think my wishbones ( loops and replaceable dyneema) are a bit long.

I use replaceable.
I use replaceable.
Dan do you ever use the band grove [ the cut in the band slot to remove the bands without untying ] ?
None of the Speardiver guns have it, so no. Also none of the wood guns I built in the past. The replaceable wishbone system is better all around for these reasons.
1. You can adjust the length of the wishbone ie. shorten/lengthen the bands without cutting rubber.
2. The wishbone can be replaced on the water if necessary. I always keep a couple of extra wishbones in my kit.
3. Wishbone often wears out faster than the rubber, you can quickly change it without cutting/retying the bands.
4. The band insertion slot weakens the speargun muzzle, with tie-in wishbones it's not necessary.
Before you start changing configurations due to lack of power, I suggest you try using the best rubber available at your current configuration. Then cut a little shorter in small increments. I don't know if Speardiver rubber is the best in the whole world, but it's the best I've used. I do know it's the only small ID rubber available at this time. I'll have more 16mm in about 2 weeks, and also new 14mm in small ID.
Just made some bands with Cressi brown rubber and the ID is 1,8mm.

here's mine... 5,5 cm from constrictor knot to constrictor knot
I still have to grind them in the belt sander to get smoother on the tapper (pending my neighbours availability )
Similar to how I tie mines. :thumbsup2:

I agree with all of the above. I was asking because I have a hard time keeping the total length down. How long is your replaceable bit?

thanks Dan , i don't like the band slots either [ weaken the gun ] that is why i asked

I know you asked Dan but since i took the pics for these bands, I'll share
The inserts need to be short...
here's mine

LB, don't know about the replaceable bit, but after tying the distance between the bands is 2".
marginatus, that's a nice knot. Please post a link to instructions. BTW there's a chance your wishbone will slip through the knot, even though it has a small lip from melting the end. I put a knot on each end like in Marco's pic.
Tubing Rubber Specification Sheet
Is this a major supplier in the US of band material? It's cheap if I buy in bulk. Like 200 feet. I guess I'll have to go into the band manufacturing business here.
They have varying inside diameter for the same size material.
I also agree with the comments that less is better. I'll take the smooth shooting of 9/16 bands over the ability to make a "hale Mary" shot with 5/8s. I've knocked down 40 plus lb cuberas with two 9/16 bands and a 9/32 shaft. (7mm?)

here's how to:
Lanyard (Diamond) Knot | How to Tie a Lanyard (Diamond) Knot | Decorative Knots
you then just need to adjust the loop size.
It won't slip because I use the double sheet bend
Sheet Bend (Becket Bend) | How to tie a Sheet Bend (Becket Bend) | The Basics Knots
with a sheet bend, you're right, that lip wouldn't be enough but with the double, the end knot you mention isn't needed.
I prefer it without the knot as it's more streamlined, less bulky and I prefer it's minimal look
I've used it this way up to 390% without problem... this one is at 350% tough
This is a simple stop knot I use when sailing and for my wishbone inserts.
Ashley (Oysterman's) Stopper Knot | How to tie the Ashley Stopper Knot (Oysterman's) Stopper Knot | Boating Knots
George how do you make that into a loop
George's is for a straight wishbone. Good to have here for reference.
Marginatus, thanks. I will try the double sheet bend, I just pull the bands apart as hard as I can to test. But using a spectra wishbone without a knot.. I'm skeptical. Still I hope it works as you're right, it's a cleaner look.

let us know how it works.

Sigalsub extreme has an ID of just 1mm
