Hopefully this one will last a little while. Its a Leopard Grouper (cabrilla in esp). Shot in Gonzaga April of 2009. Went 16 lbs. I tore off on a bigger one last time I was down, but that doesn't count..:frustrated2::boohoo:

Looks a lot like a black grouper here.
-
The scientific name is Mycteroperca rosacea if that helps. I don't see the similarities between the two, besides the grouper body.
Here are some neat pictures and some info on them:

Yeah I know it's a different species. Black grouper can appear differently sometimes, see these pics.
-
and you can also the blacks with those square patterns on them too...
nice fish mate
-
Nice fish. Where did you get it?
I'm not asking your secret spot...just the area in Mexico. -
It was at my place in Gonzaga, Baja California Norte, Sea of Cprtez side. Used to be alot better, but some shady deals in San Felipe forced the pangueros south, right to us..

If your dad finds he way over here your record is screwed :D;), and I'll leave it alone for now as mine came from the last century and should not count. I love Cabriila meat and Pargo.
Cheers, Don

Yup! Its toast if he comes in. Same with the Gulf record.. Hes pulled some bigguns out of there!
-
sheepshead from last thursday. 5-6 pounds:
total catch that day:
no I didn't get the biggest one that day but the guy who shot it isn't a member:D -
man those sheepies make that cero look small! lol
-
i wouldnt have shot that little mac if I hadnt been skunked in 45' and knew I was headed in when I got to the surface. figured it was better to unload into dinner than by hand, my sheepie went about 22" the other was approaching 24"
-
nice Mike...how do you cook the sheep?
-
usually grilled although when Im feeling lazy I blacken just about any type of fish.

nice. i was really commenting on the size of the sheepies and not the siz of the mac. hope I didnt offend u.:)

not at all I just dont normally shoot fish that size, I didn't shoot either snapper pictured. I typically dont like taking a life for a sandwich sized meal.

yes I have several lying in my garage so it made a nice platform to lay the fish on for a picture without laying them on my driveway(i do lots of metal work so I dont need metal shavings in the fish)

So, what's the Atlantic cubera record? And the Mutton snapper?
-
The mutton and cubera are in there. I'll update with the sheepies and other recent fish later.
