PV Shark Watch

  • A majestic animal for sure. Kill it eat it.:nono:

  • Those are some amazing animals but all these sightings are not convincing me to jump in the water. Are these sightings keeping any of you out of the water in these locations? Am I just being overly cautious by not diving these spots?

The statistics are on your side. More likely to get run over by a googin.

I agree, I personally feel '' donated to research'' on that much meat is Bull Shite. Even if some body gets to take some home it will taste like piss after dragging it around with it's skin and guts intact for two days. :(
What a waste to cut open it's stomach to ''see'' what it eats, than weigh it's liver while every one go's wooo dat heavy.:rolleyes1:

I have no problem with guys fishing Mako if they don't waste the meat.

  • I heard Mako shark is good eats.

Very good, I shot one that finally got me pissed off after 5 close pass's and a poke. Even a 8 footer can hit your ankles and cut a artery. I cut off the head on the swim step, and had the steaks on ice still twitching.
It was very good meat on the Barbi.
I would not target them however.

    Cheers, Don

  • What would really suck is a guy that drives 5 miles North to surf and get's hit there.

  • More drama in the water this morning. A guy on a SUP see's a five foot shark just outside and calls it a juvi GWS. So a surfer paddles in and alerts the LG on duty. About 15 minutes later baywatch shows up with jetski's and boat and start clearing the surf camp kids out of the water. I could not ID the shark but it was docile and swam away when I paddle up to it. Not in PV. A few miles north.

Water is still warm but not much bait.

Rancho Palos Verdes**—**On July 22, 2013 Dan Salas, captain of the Triumphant, a 90-foot whale watching catamaran from Harbor Breeze Cruises was about ¾ of a mile off of Rancho Palos Verdes reported the following;“It was*about 3:30PM and we were off the coast in front of Trump National Golf Course in 300 feet of water just beyond the kelp line. We noticed a little bit of a disturbance next to the boat. We pulled alongside and stopped the boat and there was an 18-foot Great White Shark that bit a 200-pound Sea Lion with one bite completely in half. The shark came out of nowhere in a blink of an eye. In two seconds, it was over. After slicing through the sea lion, the shark then circled the carcass for 30 minutes before gobbling it up. The shark showed no fear, and came right to our 90-foot boat and swam right up to the boat to chase us away from his fresh kill."Please report any shark sighting, encounter, or attack to the Shark Research Committee.*

Nice find. One of my favorite dive spots before the closures.

  • Salas said a KNBC-TV news crew had joined him to shoot video of blue whales off the Palos Verdes Peninsula. They were looking for Hook, a whale missing half a tail, and Delta, which has a tail whose ends turn upward like a plane wing.

"While we were taking video of Delta the blue whale, we noticed a little bit of a disturbance next to the boat," Salas said. "We stopped the boat and there was an 18-foot great white shark that bit a 200-pound sea lion with one bite completely in half."

Salas said he spent 30 years on the ocean and had never seen such a sight. Adult great white sharks, which can grow to 21 feet, are rarely spotted in local waters. Salas said the shark "came out of nowhere in a blink of an eye. In two seconds, it was over."

"To see it right in of you was awesome," Salas said. "We were right off the coast of Palos Verdes. It's equivalent to a lion eating a zebra."

After slicing through the sea lion, the shark then circled the carcass for 30 minutes before gobbling it up. Salas said he moved in closer so the crew could shoot video, but the shark wasn't happy.

"The shark showed no fear," he said. "The shark came right to our 90-foot boat with no fear and swam right up to the boat to chase us away from his fresh kill."

Salas said the coastal waters are teeming with whales and wildlife. Last week, a whale-watching captain saw a much smaller great white shark, and another one on Saturday in the same area.

On July 10, the crew of a sheriff's helicopter cleared some swimmers and surfers off the El Porto section of Manhattan Beach when two large sharks -- about 6 feet in length -- were spotted below.

"Maybe there are a lot more sharks swimming off the coast than we know," he said.

I saw some vid of it on the news the night it happened, but can't find it now. I could see shore very clearly
close by. This one is pretty big.....Dan hurry up with that shark proof Zebra suit.:D
My club was nice enough to send me a email this morning to give me a heads up.:toast::toast:
