I've been spearing for over a year now and wishing my life away that I had done this 30 years ago.
To be in the water, no thoughts about work or worries in the world is the most fantastic feeling of freedom. The added bonus of taking home tomorrows and maybe the next days dinner is a big attraction too.
I've been commercial seining, trawling many years ago and continued fresh water and salt water angling pursuits. I always meant to but never got around to free diving and spearing until fairly recently. I hunt Catalina Island, Offshore high spots, paddy hop, Palos Verdes Peninsula, Channel Islands and Sea of Cortez. I dive every week at least once with my 14 year old son who is passionate about the sport. I hope he stays at it as it is the most awesome experience being with him through our experiences in the water.
