Nylon knot to fasten the rod

I use that knot often for fishing. The problem is when you pull on the knot it will eventually tighten around the shaft like a slip knot. It is called the uni knot.
-
Yes that's the Uni-knot, a great knot with the least % of line strength lost. I use it for many applications, except to attach line to a shaft, because as Hookinfish said it will tighten down.
-
I use the uni for everything, not the best but easy to tie and so versatile!
-
To get by if you have tubes or panties
other knots that tighten when not cutting or breaking out. -
One of my favorite loop knots is the perfection loop. You can place hooks and I imagine with a little work a shaft in it too. Works well on all size lines I have tried 250 lb test down to 4lb. Plus its fast.

I use it on my reel line which I believe is 3mm dyneema. Its whatever Ulusub sent with the gun. I clip onto that and I have had no problems, however, I have not had a fish take any substantial reel line out either.
I wouldn't use it on thin spectra but I have not tried it either. I usually run 65lb spectra backing on my fishing reels and I tie a bimini twist to a reverse arbor (I think that's what its called) when splicing to mono.I feel that the perfection loop is a stronger knot then the surgeon loop and is easier to tie regardless of test line I use. A local tackle company sells their lures with leader premade and they use the perfection loop in 300 pound line for trolling. I have no experience with this but they swore by it. I figure its worth a shot if your not able to crimp your leaders. Plus its a much cleaner finish then the surgeons knot.
I sadly don't have any statistics as to breaking strength but if you play with it please post up results.

Cool, try this with your mono to spectra joins, I swear by it

Thats what I use for jigging yellowfin :thumbsup2:

Personally I have started becoming accustomed to the figure 8 follow through. It's a climbing knot, leaves a solid loop and has a pull test percentage of 75-80% of full strength (uni is around 90%, dunno what perfection is). Did I mention it is super easy to do? Everything considered though, I haven't tested it using mono. For kayaks and floatlines though it is the easiest and by far best knot I've found.
I made a little tutorial video. Let me know what you think.

Great tutorial! knot is a bit bulky and difficult for small line but for sure I will try it with heavy lines, always looking for a good simple knot for my heavy lines. :cool2:
