Legendary Champion Rene Rojas is gone

Today one of my oldest dive mates passed, we had know each other since 1980, so many adventures, so much time watching the compass.
He died of illness.

If God made a Champion Skindiver it would be Rene Rojas. What a smile, what a warmth of heart, always giving help and knowledge when not at sea doing hard work urchin harvesting. A Capt whose brown salty hands I would always put my life in... and never worry. I will apply what you have taught me about Mother Ocean as long as I know her. I'll see you someday in the blue.

He had stage 4 liver cancer that came on very fast, Rene was at a awards banquet in March and now he's gone. I did not even hold his hand and say good bye, as when I found out last week visits were not allowed.

Thank you Marco. I'm going try to smile and be more humble in honor of my friend. Rene was a master with knots and braids. He would sit on the bow of my boat and repair my rode splices and lines with perfection.... I am not that good and can only do basic, very average work.
