she kept asking illogical questions about how evolution will eventually do away with black people,,
it all started from a lecture about how peacocks choose mates based on plumage... woman are so unstable -
You were in that class and saw all of it?
-
that is just nutso...and what a bad conclusion too, technically, in the US, the african America population has cconsiderably superior genetics than their caucasion counter parts.

When I see that video I'm reminded of time I spent in the university. For such subject matter it's so much easier to just read the information in a book, and nowadays online. What a waste of time those lectures are, I don't see the point other than the school making money. Having to share a class with such nut-jobs is too much.

Dan you have hit on something I have said for years...earlier education should filter out the ways each child learns best and then they are taught that was there after..there are those who do best by hearing, those who do best reading, those who learn by watching, those who learn by doing, hose who excel with a lot of instruction before hand and those who like to mess up and then be taught after...
for me I do well whe nI hear and when I do, reading is my lowest form of learning. I hated to read the lecture material before hand in college but could absorb it much faster after hearing the lecture.
the whole notion that any group of people of significant size can all be taught the same way is pure BS.
most need a blend of teaching styles, but the University system fails in many ways at that

When it come to hands on subject matter of course it's better to see it done and hear the explanation, although I get just as much out of a video. But that evolution class is all theoretical knowledge. If you can't absorb the material reading it, I don't see how you can reproduce it writing, which is the only time you'll need it ie. writing a test or an essay. This kind of formal education is designed to hold you back not move you forward IMO.
-
or perhaps it isnt designed to do anything..which is a problem too..if the only goal, as you alluded to in your first comment, is to make the university money, hen no one is concerned about the use of such knowledge and it is, arguably, worthless.
i love to learn and I value all knowledge..I am an innately curious person and I have a phenomial memory....that said...I hated sitting through boring lectures about courses i was forced to take for some stupid pre-requisite

They are actually designed to keep the masses occupied and out of the streets. 80%, if not more, of the people out there with degrees should not have one, but unfortunately the entire system is designed to make it easy for everyone to get "an education" and that is why you have so many useless degrees and levels of education.IMHO half of the universities and schools out there should not even exist.

Wasn't this the "funny" thread?

interesting and or funny.. anyway that video was funny so it fits both criteria..
as far as the value of education its all relative. I figure anyone getting a science (engineering, biology, medicine, etc) degree is doing an admirable thing and IMO will prob benefit this planet.,, anyone getting a law/accounting/buisness degree is filling a niche,, anyone getting a communications degree is avoiding real life and appeasing their parents, and anyone getting an art degree was placed on this Earth solely for the purpose of being a hippy. -
Benny Hill LOL used to watch the show as a kid to get a glimpse of titties from time to time. It was the only show on tv that got away with it.

Good call Steven.well said.
I'll add, as a lawyer, that a lot of professionals are that because they weren't ready to work after college and wanted more school. Or just didn't know what they wanted to do

I just keep rereading: Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance when I want to tune my brain.;)
