In no way I'm trying to bother nobody I'm just using this opportunity to teach our fellows spearos and show our friends about this 2 species so when they do visit the Caribbean they can tell the difference between this 2 species.

Spiny lobster. This has a size limit.

Spotted Spiny lobster..This is what tinu caught ..they don't have a regulation on this.

nice catch of fish and bugs but don't you think they are too many? don't mean to be a dick but even if there is no legal limit and no competition for the fish taken it doesn't mean we can take as many as we can today and not worry about tomorrow. take what you need to eat unless you're selling them and even then.....

sorry to be a wet blanket but.....

Metelin..this lobsters are everywhere..and those you saw are in a mature sate..old in our terms.. They don't grow more than that. By that time they spawn many many times.. They are referred in the Caribbean as roaches,..because you can find them everywhere(like a plague)..in a lot of numbers specially during the night.. They dwell during the days inside rocks and crevasses...not like the spiny lobster that like to stick the head out all the time.. or go out for a walk during the day. Trust me i have seen hundreds in just a normal size reef..but we just take the mature ones..the little ones are like the size of a grown crawfish. And in just that reef you can see there little eyes glowing all over the damn place. When you buy a lobster tail you can tell witch one it is by looking at the color and the white dots..If you see many dots over 20 small dots to be more specific and a dark redish color..that is one of this and not the regular spiny lobster.. If you see some bluish color in the tail and about 6 bigger dots. that is the regular spiny lobster. Anyone mind to add to this.. :)

Nice tinu...I love to collect those rock lobsters...I go at night with a flashlight and that is it. They crawl allover the place..in Some places you can get 30 or more in a few hours..in just 10 feet of water or less.. Plus those you have are in a pretty good size...Sometimes they confuse them with the spiny lobsters.. and tell me that I'm getting small spiny lobsters and I'm not meeting the correct size...They don't know the difference. between one or the other. That specie right there. is far from being protected. and they are everywhere in the Caribbean. Pretty good eating..:laughing3:

Shore = never alone (bad experience already),,,3 or less is the most for me to be comfortable 4 is too much.. will be worry of where everyone is.

Boats = 3 divers at the most , with 4 will divide in 2 groups..

Always a partner..At least when i'm out. and in the boat it depends on size of the boat. plus destination. plus amount of gear.:)

I used it one time for rigging a RIFFE C3... boy i almost cut my hands fighting a Big Cuda. While i was handling the cable the damn thing went on a run and the cable almost went trough my 2$ gloves and into my skin. Glad i let go fast before something serious could happen. So i told to my self. SELF no more BS like that. and i lost 2 bands in one dive because i didn't spot one of the wires that peeled, Poke the bands and snapped while stretched. Scared the bejesus out of me. So if for your type of hunting is not needed..spectra might be better or Mono.

Of course in USD..What else could it be :rolleyes1:..Yeah if you get to live in the islands and have a functional boat you can make a lot of money fishing.. Your adversary will be the damn hurricane season. Imagine earning that daily doing something you like..sounds like a full time job of AWESOMENESSSS :thumbsup2:

Hau you make me laugh.. I remember those JBL from the good ol times..:).. I used a Wood Caballero most of my early years. First ones you can find in the island. that a friend of mine from Cuba brought when i was like 12 years old my very first teacher in spearfishing . Still remember all the work i need to put on cleaning the shaft to prevent rust all the time. and sharpening the tips. and make sure non of the double flopper where getting stuck. it was heavy as hell. it was like a 38+ for those who remember the Magnums from JBL. Was heavy but shoot straight and i don't remember ever complaining about tracking a gun left and right That is why i don't care if it's a wood or pipe gun. Because i catch the same fish back then that i do now. Even if you need to track the gun sideways you need to do it slow in order not to spook the fish..(I'm I wrong?). Sometimes and I mean rarely you need to do a sudden move to shoot fast while freediving. Probably i'm a little old school. hope that don't offend no one.

I know I know everyone is different. And you want to be more comfortable in the water. But instead of gear, polish you skills in the water, because that is the most important aspect of the sport.

For those old spearos. Do you remember ever complaining about your old guns, Or you were so happy like me that you don't even care. Now with new technology we complaint about this and that all the time. Ease of track ,, wood vs pipe,, Carbon.. kevlar,, Plastic. SS. open cell, against neoprene etc and most important brands. If the gun shoots straight and you are a good spearo all of the above is not as big of a deal as some like to show. You are the spearo regardless of equipment. Reason i respect old school spearos. Cubans,,, Italians,,,whoever. That was raw spearfishing at is best... Just my :twocents:

I know some of you understand what i'm saying

    Cheers

an really beautiful boat. Hope you enjoy it for lots of years to come. So how many bloody spots you have a the end of the trip. Good start...a good feeling. You need to come up with a name for everything. Have you narrow down to a few or you just still waiting?

    Congrats

Did you go to Wild Bill's ?

    Cheers, Don

No Don I've been stationed in Georgia for a year. Now I'm in Kuwait. i don't know to much about ATL Georgia still. But I've heard good things from WB's. My friends are going to the upcoming Mardi Grass Party they are hosting. ..:D..Wild party...Hmmmmm you really have been in every corner of the world :laughing3:..hey by any chance have you gone spearfishing out of Savannah Georgia?. I've heard is by boat out to the blue only. but that is it. ..any ideas?

    Core, are you in country?
    Don

In the dessert Kuwait my friend. Starting to get toasty over here.. Looks like the summer is catching up and we gong to be roasting in the next months. Trying to keep my mind in salt water, and spearfishing to forget about this forgotten land. all you see is sand, dust, dirt and camels..:) I guess is going to be mandatory to get a sun tan over here.

hau brother common...we need some pics..jajaja the reports are always on point. But we need some color in the story.. Good fishing. it will be nice if you take a picture from the Yak to the other spearos getting ready to jump in the water. will like to see how much stuff you guys carry in the yak before getting in the water

I've been looking into that. Sony put out a new camera out with really good specs but there is no housing out for it yet. Ikelite still considering on creating one for the new models that are out...I will look into the waterproof ones to see if there is something out there with good reviews

Well I'm going to bring this old Thread to life so i don't have to open a new one. I'm in the process of buying a new camera while here in Kuwait so i can take pictures of my time in the dessert. But i want to buy a camera that i can use while spearfishing as well. Does any of you guys have any recommendations?. I don't want to buy a camera and then don't be able to find a suitable UW case for it. I know technology have evolved a lot so i guess they have new models out there that can do video in a good quality. Please post any that you think gets the job done. And about those Sea life cameras. I used them for a long time. And they gave a me a lot of headaches. the reason i stay with them is becasue that is the brand we sold in the scuba store i used to work so we have to promote them. =).
They flood to often, and the quality is not the best. They might have gotten better in the more expensive line. but i lost a little faith in them. So who knows

    Cheers

Also i have tried using a knife to scrape small rocks...for some reason that have helped..but is not consistent with any species..the only species that comes all the time. is the damn Cudas. I guess because of the knife itself. Welll we love them for chumming..and also if you catch a fish for chumming..scrape the bones in the spine with the knife..that sound will bring godzilla out of the depths :)..that sound is very peculiar and very attractive to big fish even tax collectors. and it works.

Hey Don nice thread ..i would like to se a closer look to that bad ass. Gun. i cant tell the system..so if i get it right you have 2 shafts individually loaded.?.. so how is your trigger mechanism.>? I'm just curious.. And i cant seem to understand the whole set up with the leash and all. Maybe i'm misreading the posts but got me all confused...BTW the picture in the kelp is priceless.. that stuff will annoy me so bad..Cheers

This posts makee my trip to Kuwait easy..seen water..and dead fish makes this horrible sand look like nothing:thumbsup2:
