Once I speared a Wahoo with a Rapala hanging in its mouth. It was pretty rusted and worn. Don't have pictures though.

I have shot many fish, that had long time injuries and survived, I have some pics, one is a Yellowfin tuna, his mouth had been hit by something, am guessing a Bill fish, and it was all bend, but survived to be speared by me, a coiple of wahoos, one of them had the jaw completely broken, and was like that eating from my chum line, it looked like a big hook he could scape from, or maybe another Bill fish, and another wahoo had something on his back, it wasin the process of healing, with an odd shape, again, not sure what it was, but he was in a school of wahoo, and looked pretty healthy to me.

Wow. Such incredible creatures

Pantoja shot this hogfish Saturday. Looks like these healed injuries are a common sight with hogfish. This one was hit twice before he ended up on Pantoja's spear. The injury near the anus was completely healed. The big tear on the top near the dorsal fin looked fresh. These hogs just don't seem to learn. In Cuba they haul ass without ever having been speared. We had this hog for lunch today and it was great eating breaded and fried. My dogs enjoyed the head.

wow, that is really remarkable
-
3rd times a charm - whats that quote something like: fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me..... this fish was just DUMB

Another hogfish with a healed head injury (taken by Pantoja).

Here is a picture of a dog snapper shot the other day on the outside of the main reef here in Belize in about 50-60 ft of water. The quality isnt that great but you can see the guts where my shot was  and what looks to be a shot from anonymous spear man/woman just above where my carnage is. There was a guy diving for lobsters not too far from there I know those guys carry slings I suppose that was the cause. That's me going to look for a couple other fish in the background (in water). Ive really enjoyed seeing all these injured fish finally landed. keep em coming guys

The stinking carp out here are next to indestructible. Guy I was spearing with last month shot one that had speared before in the head. It had healed up and had moss growing out of the two holes in its head. Wish I had a Picture.

Snapper.
We caught this guy H+L at night in the keys during mini season (snapper spawn) since he was such a badass we released him to live a 3rd life.

Nice! How did I miss this thread? I've seen lots of fish with missing eyes and lower jaws from H&L guys and bite marks from seals&sea lions, but Iv never thought to take a picture of it.

Something to note is a lot of these "injuries" may be a misdiagnosis. There are known genetic defects, have a look at the picture on the bottom right. Red Morwong, Cheilodactylus fuscus (Castelnau, 1879) - Australian Museum
I am trying to find the details but no longer have access to some files. I will either edit or add another post once I find the information.
