Enclosed track speargun

  • psychobilly---no problem brother. You have added some of the very best ideas to this project :idea2:
Your idea below is almost exactly how we are going to try to build this ETPG (Enclosed Track Pipe Gun) barrel <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x">
    Thank you psychobilly

Maybe you could use a regular barrel without a rail and build the rail\enclosed track out of the CF to match the handle so you don't have to cut the shaft groove down to the original size and have the CF around the shaft not just the sides....would be stronger? Just an idea....:)

  • Hmmm. That's going to be awfully thin by the time I machine the ends to a 1.05" ID to accept the RA handle and muzzle. 1.116" OD - 1.05" ID leaves only 0.066" (total), which leaves only 0.033" wall. That's just a hair over 1/32".

Edited once, last by Guest ().

  • I wasn't planning on it . With the other tube having a 0.083" wall, I didn't think that any additional CF was necessary, and would only add more weight. The G10 should epoxy very well to the CF tube without additional CF around it.

  • No problem Tin Man
I'll email Adam right now and hold the order until he and I talk about what other tubes he has to offer. He and I were going to talk Monday anyway.
I also prefer to build things on the safe side.

The other tube from http://www.composite-resources.com/index.php is 1.00 X 1.162 X 72in, which is nice because there is 2f of "waste"
    Thank you Tin Man

  • Ok, how about this. Since there is 24" extra on the Composite Resources tube, I can cut two short test pieces (still leaving a some extra for the real tube). I will make one with the G10 track and no additional wraps. On the second, I will overlay an additional CF sleeve, and see if my cheap vacuum pump will conform the CF around the whole thing. Then we can decide which approach to pursue.

  • Hau - Everything arrived today! I got your package with the muzzles and handle, and thanks for the extra goodies. The tube looks great, with an inside diameter right at 1", and an outside diameter right about 1.160". I'll get started soon!

  • Yes Dan, simple round tube. It has an interesting outside texture. It looks fairly smooth, with miniscule lines running around the diameter where they wrapped it during manufacturing I guess. But it has a little bit of a grippy feel to it, like very fine sandpaper. I think that would go away with a single light sanding and a thin coat of epoxy. Might be great on a smaller tube for a polespear, though.

I will try to keep track of the time.

  • Tin Man---I guess that there is no need to type how excited I am to see this project get to this phase :hooray:
Thanks for the info about how the CF tube looks.
    1. Do you think that the CF tube properties are correct to build ETPG barrels? I mean, is the tube stiff and tough enough for speargun barrels?
    2. Did you notice the modifications on my Tin Man muzzle? What do you think?
    3. I sent along the RA muzzle AND the muzzle line guide so that you might evaluate it for your muzzles.
    Thank you Tin Man. :hail1:

PS---I went back to work last night for the first night back from my emergency surgery. That is why I am not on the forum as much.
    Thanks
