This is my first gun build. It's a 63" midhandle bluewater gun. I cut the trigger and handle pockets and poured the epoxy track today, I'll take more pictures tomorrow when the epoxy dries.

Cool. That's complicated for a first build, kudos. What's the blue stuff around the track?
What are you planning to shoot with it?
-
Thanks! The blue stuff is just masking tape so that i don't have to sand the spilled over epoxy off to the wood. The gun is going to have four 9/16th bands for a while until I get comfortable with it then I will probably re-rig it with 5/8th bands. It'll be mostly for wahoo and maybe the occasional tuna.
-
Why is there a layer of clear epoxy over the track and masking tape?
-
I was trying to overfill the groove that i cut for the track so that I could remove the air bubbles by sanding then off tomorrow. I ended up sloping epoxy onto the masking tape. I probably didn't add enough graphite powder when I was mixing the epoxy which is giving the appearance of clear epoxy.

Nice, looking foward to watching the build.
Cheers, Don Paul -
cool, way to go big on the first time...as one who has watch a lot of builds and never thrown my hat into the ring, kudos...
I always told myself i would keep a journa lof all my steps with emphasis on the successes and failures throughout to help me learn, you might want to do the same thing to help w future buildsgood start

Took off the masking tape this morning and sanded off the air bubbles. I getting the masking tape off was a major PITA so I wont be using it again. Also I left the trigger mech in the pocket so that the track could form around the curved front of the neptonics tuna trigger, that was a mistake. I kinda made a mess of the top of the gun when I was trying to remove the air bubbles, but I think that I can fix that by removing the top 1/16th of the gun and track with a table saw. Thanks for all the kind words, unfortunately I won't be able to work on the gun till march as I have to go back to RI to continue my education.
-
A planer would fix that in a jiffy.
-
I don't have a planer, but I ran it through a table saw and that cleaned it right up. I also got the remote trigger installed and started on the handle grips
-
very cool. what tools have you been utilizing on this make?
-
Thank god it's finally summer; I'm home from college and had a chance to get some work done on the gun. Got the enclosed track routed and the trigger mech pinned
-
Nice gun.:thumbsup2:
-
nice, looking clean
-
Thanks, added the pushrod, pushrod retainer, cut the line release slot and pined the line release.
-
wait??? why is the trigger behind the handle?
is that how you set the mech and then cut it down ? i always assumed that remote triggers had shorter arms with equal throw.
-
the trigger in the pic needs to be cut down flush with the stock, I'm just a little scared to take a grinder to my 85$ trigger:@
-
oh, cool, i guess I just always assumed they made a different mech for remote trigger setups...
I would definitely measure 10 times and cut once on an 85$ mech:@
-
Looking good! You are going to take nice fish with it for sure.
-
Almost done got the band hole cut and the first two coats of epoxy on and ballasted.
