A good post by jfjf on SB following Griswold's post on reshaping the Riffe knife sheath. I'll spare the instructions as anyone can probably do a nicer job of it but the idea is solid IMO. Just heat the PVC with a heat gun and flatten it, you can do it with the knife inside so it molds perfectly around it. I'll post my own pics when I do it. Are there black PVC pipes?
DIY PVC knife sheath

Not sure if pipe is available in black, but flat sheet is available in different colors. Come to think of it, a flat sheet might be easier to manipulate anyway. Any edges should be easily glued or melted together. McMaster.com has a 24" x 24" square sheet that is 0.118" thick (just under 1/8"), in black, for $14.68. Item number 84775K11.
I was thinking of something along these lines, but I thought that the softened plastic might get mashed into the serrated side of the knife blade, making it difficult or impossible to remove. Maybe it's not quite that malleable?

Comes in Black. Go to HD.
LOMartin is right, it's for more psi. It's called ABS not PVC.
-
yeah they come in black but they cost a little more there made to hold higher PSI. .

I think that you may be confusing a couple of different plastics. Regular PVC is usually white, while, gray is probably CPVC, which is for slightly higher temperature and pressure. ABS and Polyethelene, two other commonly availabe plastic piping materials, come in other colors. But Dan specifically asked about PVC.
-
I did ask for PVC but I'll take anything that can be worked like that. I don't remember Home Depot having anything but white and Grey. I think in the case of your funky shaped knife it may be a problem but for a stiletto type blade you'd have to pound real hard for the plastic to grab the serration.

Hola, this is a knife that I made, Ted from TIKI made me the sheath from a material called kydex, it comes in a lot of colors, this one simulates carbon fiber, it works great for me, I have for about 2 years now, it can be work with a heat gun, the rivets are from a machine that the company sells.

Dan,
Home Depot and Lowes both carry ABS. I know Lowes does for sure cause I just bought some stuff for my irrigation system today and they had it up to 4", and Home Depot carries it also because of our Potato Launching expeditions. -
Thanks Ray I'll look into it. I hope ABS is workable with heat.
Pucho, nice knife. Your post is not showing the company page. How is the wood secured onto the handle? What material are the rivets made of?
-
I secure the teak with epoxy, gring some of the s/s to make it porous , rivets are brass.
here is a kit for the rivets

The knife is maybe the most important piece of safety equipment, i can´t think in a situation in which the knife would not be required. What do you think about cold steel stuff for diviing purposes...

I use the spike tanto for diving. It is small and out of the way and I put it on my weightbelt.
It is realy good for braining.
I would really like a knife with a double edge, with one edge being serrated but I'm too lazy and will use this one until I lose it.
