Small kayak for a float

  • true enough, was just trying to find something smaller. That yak is a pig when solo.

  • Is a FL and float even necessary in shallow water? I was testing out a FL I picked up today with fishing dude and though it worked well I found myself wondering if it was even needed. What are the benefits of using these in shallow water? I know in deeper water they are useful for larger fish, but in close are they? Still going to make one out of a boogie board I found, but that's just for the enjoyment of making one.

  • if a cobia, large cuda, kingfish, or random nice jack swims past, i want to be able to land that fish and my shooting line is alone is not sufficient

    i like to spear fish

Good point lunker. It's getting built either way so I am good to go. Hopefully I see one of those fish I will need it for. :thumbsup2:

  • with a polespear do I do the same thing??? shoot it and then just ride my boogie board til it stops moving? makes me wanna shoot something big and go kneeboarding behind it

Where are you going to put your fish, big or small?

If for whatever reason you have to let go of your gun, and the vis is bad and there's a current, and you don't have a float, you may never find it again.

If you're diving with a partner, and there's even a little chop, will make it very hard to spot each other without a flag. A lifeguard will not let you launch without a flag. You will get a fine for diving without a flag.

  • Most my fishing is in shallow water (8- 25 feet) and like Lunker and Dan said before you will see big fish come to you from deep water and will bolt back there once you shoot them, or that nice cubera that you shot at 20 decides to go to hide in ''his'' hole at 40-50 with your gun in tow. Also I carry my stringer on the float and gives you a place to rest after swimming in strong current or waiting for the boat to pick you up. Just a few things the float is good for even in shellow water.

  • My post is from a month ago. A couple of weeks ago I went to sports authority and this little yak was on sale for $99 right by the front door. When I bought my new speedos I got a $25 off coupon on any $100 purchase. So I bought the yak and a piece of gum and it ended up costing me $80. I keep wanting to rig it but haven't found the time so it's sitting in my garage.

Have you taken a chance to get this out on the water yet?

  • No and I'm probably not going to. There's an ideal solution for a dive board right now which I'm waiting to arrive. Pursuit will also be selling it.

I'm selling the little yak for $60. It's brand new, never seen water.

  • That's going to be perfect for my shore diving where I have to schlep my gear a 1/2 mile. I've been following the development of that float from the beginning. When do you get you first shipment ?
