The F word ?

  • This is Dan's forum and is his house, but I wanted to get a opinion on something:
How do guys feel about not spelling out the word F_ _ck or a few other spicier words in the Cali posts.
I have control of my young boy's use of the computer and he is not a member here but some times he sits next to me on the Bark O Lounger. I know Joe and a few other guys have young kids as well.

Looking for some opinions, how do you feel about it Dan?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers, Don

  • Don, I hear your concern, even though my daughter is still very young, she repeats everything she hears. I'm grateful she's not reading... yet.

That said, I think you shouldn't worry to much about it. Reading it in my opinion doesn't have the same impact as hearing it said out loud. You should probably be more worried about what he learns in school from his peers...

  • Thanks Dan, I'd like to hear what the guys think. I always try to camo it as well, but one time I lost it on the other place and the filters kicked in.
    Cheers, Don

  • I can easily communicate without the those words though it is my habit to use them.

  • I don't think that it will majorly inconvenience anyone on the forum if some language is prohibited. With that said, people will always find ways around censors if they really care. Gerald raises a good point that eventually they're going to start hearing it at school, and probably while still at a pretty young age.

I'm sure he hears it, but I have never had him curse yet, but he's only 10. The sisters would have washed his mouth with soap by now. I don't want to see written language prohibited, was thinking more along the lines of a ''gentleman's agreement if anything.

  • I don't see any particularly compelling reason not to make a gentlemen's agreement over the issue, so I'll support it.

  • I think it is a good unwritten policy...no need to censor or chide anyone for it, but a nice PM to remind folks that this is an 'all ages' forum.

I curse way too much and it would not bother me at all to try to keep it out of this forum....except 'asshat'...some people are just asshats and need to be called asshats....no F bombs from me :D

    i like to spear fish

  • I use the F-word like any French Canadian on my boat.... but not around kids and nuns.:D

    Don,

It's all perspective... because a lot of parents would find a F-bomb in text less offensive than the pic you posted in another thread...

Just commenting, not judging. Personally, F-bombs don't bother me (in moderation) because I'm not a parent... and cool nudie pics just make me happy. :)

  • IMO Explicatives lose there usefullness when overused................

There are times............... nearly all of us use them...............

Most of us would do well to use less....

My 2 year old grandson spends a lot of time with us................ stuff I need to work on..

We really dont need to use the F word.............

I once worked with a guy that managed a huge grading operation................ $ tens of 1000's of work a day in the Santa Monica Mtns................... he had come up thru the ranks.......... He used the F**ken like a lot of people use "you know".................... another bad habit a lot of us need to work on.................. was with him was about every third to fifth word!.......

    Gentilemens agreement is great.................

just dont get me going on the f****ing MLPA or F***ing politicians............... or ..... well you know what i mean.............

    mike

  • the human body is a beautiful thing.......... (at least some of them :D)

  • I dont think is a thing to debate on...kids ALWAYS are going to hear it or use it at school..or behind your backs....its just a matter of time...trust me in school they are waaaay different when they are with you haha!...i least i was like that haha!!

  • fuzz, the same thing occurred to me when I saw the pic in the other thread. But then I remembered that Don asked specifically about the Cali section. I guess that's the part of the forum he expects to be showing his son, probably not the bikini thread. Still it wouldn't make sense to try and apply this to one section, we might as well deal with it as a forum wide question. I think I've read %90 of the forum content from the time it started and I don't remember seeing f**k spelled out more than a couple of times, and it might have been by me :) I don't think it's a problem. But if Don wants to draw attention to the issue it's fine by me.

This post will be deleted today. It is the first and only time I will ever post this link (yes Rolo, the first time).

Don, do not click on this link.

  • dan that was just disturbing, I advise nobody to click that. about the censorship thing I can see it being an unwritten rule type of deal I rarely us the f word in typing but stuff happens. the whole cencorship thing is a touchy subject... dans vintage picture under his name comes to mind, I personally like it and think its very cool but anywhere he posts will show nudity. I wouldnt even care if cuss words came up like **** most of us are capable of figuring out what someone was trying to say based on the context, however a child wouldnt and would just see ****. just my:twocents:
