  • Beautiful knives Don. I would be hesitant to drag those into the ocean.

I don't believe in collector knifes what don't earn their keep, all these tools get wet, but I also take care of them greasing and rinsing after use.I even still have my first knife along with a boy scout folder I'm giving to my boy. I have replaced the straps on the AK74.

  • The plastic handle on my knife broke a while back so I picked up the only one the local DS on my way to the shore. I wanted a titanium knife since they don't rust but now am not sure they are worth the extra cash. I keep mine cleaned and oiled after a dive and it doesn't rust and IMO seems to hold a better edge than the titanium ones. What are your opinions on the two, seems to me titanium isn't really worth the added cost but I always like to get multiple opinions. :thumbsup2:

I still have the knife blade and would love to find a replacement handle if anyone knows where to get one since it's the same one I have had since I started 15 years ago.

  • make one out of any number of materials....shapelock being the number one that comes to mind...then wood, then abs.

or go ted nugent and use bone or tusk.....badass dive knife right there :D

    i like to spear fish

  • Don, I have the same Applegate combat folder, it doesn't get any use, I keep it in the car. What I really like about that knife is how long the handle is, it's not at all bulky but allows for a strong grip on the knife which I think is a must for a combat knife (that's what it was touted as). Most people take a while to figure out how to fold it ;) Does it actually hold up in saltwater?

No, Not without mil spec T-9 anti rust spray.
Mine has Ti parts I machined for it and some other mods that were time consuming. It is my carry knife when I'm out or on the boat. It throws very nice too.( you never know when you may need to knock down a apple from a high place).
    Cheers. Don

  • The last of my dive knives for now:

    1. 3'' Wenoka '' Brainer. I don't like pointy things going into my hand as I hold on to the fish's collar.
Tried a old Sporasub Snake for this a while back and got a big surprise when I thought a 54 lb Yellowtail
head could take the blade.:nono::@ I wear this in a sheath with SS liner glued and sewn over my left peck.
I can reach it with ether hand if one is wrapped or hitched in line.

2.My 12'' Ti blade kelp cutter. ( stays in my dive tub).

OK guys what do you use in camp,on the boat or in the water?

    Cheers, Don

  • I don't have any personal pictures of my knives, but my three main knives that I use for stuff are:

For Scuba Diving, a UK Remora:

For a general working knife, an Ontario Knife Company OKC3S Marine Bayonet, which I got for the nice price of $0.00. Unfortunately I don't have an M16 to mount it on...

And finally, a Victorianox Swiss Champ. This has been a great tool for me, and I've done tons with it. I use it a lot for working on my guitars. The one I have was a gift from my parents that they surprised me with on the last day we were in Switzerland, after we had previously visited their factory.

  • I love Bowies myself, that´s the quintaessential knife IMO. That fairbairn is a classic. They were so deadly during Overlord op, that they had to blunt the tip up to be able to recover the knife from the spine of the Nazi foes.
