hello hello hello

  • My name is Chuck Carpenter and I just recently have been bitten by the spearfishing bug. The only problem is I live in Utah so I don't have a great variety of places or fish to choose from (or people to learn from).
I am an avid hunter and fisherman, mainly a goose hunter. But I figure when I can't shoot geese I might as well go and shoot some fish. So far I have only shot a handful of dirty dirty carp. My first speargun is on it's way right now and I hope to shoot a few tasty walleye and wipers this weekend.
I will most likely be asking a million and one questions and have already learned a lot from reading all of your posts.
    Thanks in advance,:thumbsup2:
    Chuck

Welcome ,Chuck, from another landlubber. Great bunch of guys here who, if they don't hunt on land themselves, love to read about it and live vicariously thru us that do and like wise in their blue water pursuit.I'm a big dog guy myself from terriers and gundogs to sight hounds. :toast:

Ask alot of questions read up on what these guys have to offer and you'll have a great base line for knowledge. I can't give a stronger endorsement.:thumbsup2:

  • I do fly fish a little but prefer spinner fishing. I'm a huge tiger muskie fisherman. Most of the fly fishing stuff is too snooty for me. Not so much about fishing than as who's got the most orvis shit or sage stuff ect. ect. ect.

I here ya, I was doing it every day on the lake I grew up on in Conn and tying my own stuff with materials I gathered, a long time before any BS.

Are muskies legal to pole spear in any areas?

  • They used to be but tiger muskie are a sterile hybrid of a pike and a muskie and utah lost their supplier for a few years and just now started their own breeding program to restock fish. So hopefully in a year or so they will be back on the market so to speak.

  • Cool.... their like a fresh water, duckling eating Barracuda.
I would hat to have my face in a stream looking for Trout and have a mother brown bear fling my ass up on the shore.:@
