Today's viz in 55fsw
Current was ripping to the point diving was almost undoable, strongest current either of us have experienced there.
Made much fewer drops than usual.
Most fish around were porgies and macs

What do you do in that current? Just drift? Are you in a boat or a kayak? I like the current as long as we have a guy to drive....that has good eye sight and some common sense....which is a crap shoot sometimes.
-
Yeah I've dove from boats with inexperienced drivers, its hectic.
We kayak and they are anchored, so Its a pain. We put out a tagline and dive a spot 10 times or so then move. -
Current wasnt so bad north. I was up past the port and it was mild. Viz wasnt half bad. Lotsa bait moving around then I got squalled on lol
-
Thanks for the report.
Very cool pic Frank.
-
yeah current didn't get going till past 20' and got progressively worse

Out yesterday with Nate in Hwood. Was a murky layer on top and it cleared up a bit below. Could see the bottom in 68' and it opened up a lot after the first 10 feet. Was a fun day, we got muttons, mac and hog. Minimal current was a nice reprieve and wind wasn't too bad either.
Really happy with my new speardiver reel. I need to put up a proper comparison relevant to the others reels I've owned.

Nate, super cool lobster grab, and bare handed too! Is that vid slowed down a bit?
-
The videos regular speed. Nate has a way with lobsters I must admit
-
way cool video sir.
Nate with ANOTHER nice bug grab :thumbsup2:Yep sdeisen, I agree about the Speardiver reel. It has been my favorite reel since it first became available.
I love the folding crank and the solid build. I have yet to have ANY problem with the Speardiver reel.
It is the ONLY reel I use. :fanwave: -
You promised to photoshop my receding hairline, where's my luscious Tom Brady hair? The barehanded bug grab was the last resort, neither of us had gloves and it's against my nature to let an obviously legal bug off scott free.

Solo south of the Port today. First day in a while (probably like a week or 2 :rolleyes1: )that the winds subsided. Rained the entire time but it was really nice. Suprised to find good viz in 35 feet then better viz in 70 feet. I really expected it to be shot. I was only going to check the ballasting on my new gun and get wet but wound up diving for like 4 hours.
Biiiiig rollers filled up the kayak on the way out from shore but the sea was flat past those.
Heres some pics. EEaasssy transition considering I've only used railguns.
wound up with one Mac and a nice hog- sorry bout gorpro stills -
What was it like for you with this gun?
-
What was it like for you with this gun?
It was like "pew pew pew bam bam"
Really though it was very different. Much more to hold on to in the water and tracking was obviously slightly more difficult. The handle was actually fine. While it is thin, the notches on handle allow for surprisingly adequate leverage and the slits along the back actually grip your hand making side to side movement with the hand translate a little better into the whole gun.
The downsides of the gun being more cumbersome are returned tenfold in the shooting, though. Dan you know, as do the few people who dive with me, that I only like to shoot with one band. I'm basically useless with two. This gun shoots with two bands the way my railgun feels with one. That was essentially the whole point to me building (well Nate building for me) a wood gun. Oh and its cool -
Any new gun is fun to shoot. Time will tell which one you end up reaching for before you head out the door.
-
Indeed, and I will hide the xtra gun while u are not looking.
-
Oh you caught that before I deleted it I didn't want to come across like a boat nazi.
-
-
Rebehki, whaling, now!!
-
Nice gun, nice vid, nice fish, nice shot.
See, sdeisen don't need no stinkin girly man flip flop :thumbsup2:Nate--looks like your creation is beautiful AND deadly. :attack2: :fishswim:
