• Beatiful bluewater hunt here recently. We hunted hard and dropped in on all the tuna marks we could and actually spotted some 3 times, but didn't work out for the tuna. We ended up with some nice yellowtail however. I speared 2 and managed to get one on video! This is something I have wanted to do for well over a year now and finally managed to. Thanks to all the guys I was with and for the invite. It was really cool to see the tuna and there are some other experiences that I have a feeling will soon emerge on SB from some of the others on the trip. Good times, but daaaaaaamn were the seas rough! Big swells that made it really difficult to locate paddies and constand 20 knot winds I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was sore from the trip. At one point when I speared a nice yellow on a paddy a large school of bluefin came right up to the fighting fish and Dave almost managed a shot, but made a good decision as they were just out of range and held off. We spotted some toad yellows on a paddy and the captain hooked on H&L. As he quickly drifted off fighted the yellow I guess the others went with it and followed him away from the paddy. We hopped in the water was dirty here. Another guy shot what we originally thought was a yellow, but turned out to be a Scad Mack. I shot the other and managed to film it. I hope you enjoy as this has been a challenging and at times way less than pleasant offshore season.

  • Nice vid. I don't know how you stayed in the frame so well with the gun and camera just floating there.

Everyone keeps asking me about that. If you look througout the video you will see me look back and the continue fighting to keep the fish in front of the camera. I haven't fought a fish like this with the camera and with the rough ocean conditons figured it wouldn't be a good clip after the fight. I was pleasantly suprised to find that it worked out rather well. Of course a lot may have been luck, but I did make an effort to keep the fish in front of the camera.
