Does anyone else think this could be dangerous?

Hood that covers snorkel
-

Is that the Omer? I don't think it would be dangerous. The Lycra Material is very forgiving and it would be easy enough to remove the snorkel. On some days, the Jellyfish are terrible and I get out of the water with Balloon sized lips. I've always wanted one of those Stinger Hoods..
-
Yes it's the omer. I spit out the snorkel on every dive. I don't have to clear the snorkel to breath immediately on breaking the surface. I think this kind of hood would hinder the process.
-
Would be OK for a jelly fish invasion then pull it under the chin I suppose.
Cheers, Don

WOW!!, that was the first thing I thought. I always want an escape, and I can't stand to have anything between me and the surface, and nothing over my face. No way, no way

For jellyfish protection (they get THICK in Pensacola Bay sometimes) we have for years used these little silicone rubber things that stretch over the regulator mouthpiece and protect the lips from stings. Tthe same little doo-dads might work for a snorkel to provide some level of protection from stings. Maybe it's just me, but stings around the lips and mouth always seem much more painful than stings to the rest of the face.
The ones we use must be a cheap knock off, because they were only a buck or two, compared to the Aqualung piece pictured.

Where do you get the 2 dollar lip shield Tinman?
-
There should be some kind of product, a cream or paint that you can smear on parts of the face that will form a barrier that man of war stingers can't get past.

They used to sell them at the "Dive Pro" shop in Pensacola. It's been quite a while since I was in the shop, though.

Does anyone else think body paint could work for man of war?

Dan,
Your caution is valid. I believe this is a point of personal comfort. I recall when playing water polo and the opponent guarding me would hook a toe in my suit and send me below the surface. This was threatening in the same way this covering could be. There seemed to be a solution to every predicament. Maybe, if you gave this product a personal test, you would be able to validate or refute your initial opinion. Thorough testing would vet this product’s benefits, or hazards. -
sometimes when i hit the surface i know that if i didnt breath in that moment, i might get light headed,, and i wouldnt want this thing stopping that, not even for a second. granted thats maybe 1 dive out of the day if that, but still it only takes one

Agreed. I never dive with a snorkel in my mouth
