Freedive Spearfishing San Evaristo, Baja Mexico [VIDEO]

  • I was wondering about this...I assumed the same thing but was wondering if you had brought a cheap foodsaver and vacuumed a few fillets could you have gotten them to a post office or air port where some refreezable ice or dry ice could be used?

Too much work, not enough space in jeep, and pain in the ass.

  • Judah,
Saving fish for floridians was kinda pointless as all the fish was similar to the fish there. Groupers, snappers, etc.

Our main goal was to get Wahoo, but the conditions just weren't right. Kris lined up on a good one, 20-25 kilos, but totally missed a 5 ft shot.

I was just stoked to shoot Pargo!

Funny you should say that about the hoo.... I thought to my self, wow the Greekdiver really was right about not liking ''Blue Water'' and really loves the reef. One of my first record Wahoo came from a area of the part of the world. On a sad note one of my best friends drown not far from that area on a grouper that he speared in over a hundred feet of water. If you guys are up for another small group dive next year let me know.

    All the best, Don

There´s a place not far from there ( 1 hour by panga) called Las Ánimas, that place is the spot for pelagics and huge pargo. If you want Wahoo, South end of Cerralvo is the place to be. Ask el panguero for "la atravezada" ;)

  • We dove Las Animas. It was hard to stay there because of all the commercial fishermen. We didnt want to dive where they were fishing. It was saturated with pargo. The viz was not very good though when we went and we couldn't stay too long.

  • Btw, i was using the red filter i got from Dan. I really like it. I think the reef is much more colorful with that lens. I will continue to use it.

And the extra battery charger came in real handy when i had to charge my batteries.

Is too bad, commercials are taking the place, they should call that a reserve for sportfishing. Las änimas is difficult cause is windy time all year long. Fuzz and I wanted to go there with no success due to the swells.

I like it there with a strong current, a sober skipper and strong wire rope. The spot gets some fat bulls at the right time of year. My big bull jaw set came from there.;) along with a shite load of shark jerky.;)

I'm going to stop posting as I'm now on the Bison Juice.:D and LLSS..:nono:

  • Nice report Harry. Just today I had the time to see the video and read your comments.

I was wondering the same as Don. I know you are looking forward to shoot a wahoo. Its a shame water conditions didn't help.

Last week I was in my country and as soon as I got in the water, I got surrounded by a school of 20-30 wahoos in the 30-40 Lb range. It was a loooooong time since my last BWH and I got anxious. All my family was asking for fish and a 30 pounder fills many freezers. At the end I could score one and a nice black grouper. But i ripped the first two. One with a belly shot and the second one, my speargun reel broke. It was sitting there since November last year and te Stainless Steel axle was rusted.

Anyway, this is your post. Congratulations and thanks for sharing! :)

A bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day at work.

  • Very nice guys. Good to see some familiar faces getting wet. I love shooting those barred pargo.

How deep was the diving in the area on average. looks fairly shallow, but with that red filter over the lens that could be deceiving...

    Dive safe,

    G
