sdeisen is 100% correct how it was this morning
I only got 1 20in hog before they had to go in. Scott an sdeisen went West to shore and I hoisted anchor an went East to the 2nd reef and there on the second reef I shot 2 other hogs, 2 muttons and 1 porgey. I SAW a nice mac while I had a fish on the spear line:(
I had to take each fish back to the yak as I saw 2 little bulls circling me in the 25f viz an didn't want to take any chances:(
Weather forcast is crap for tomorrow :(

  • It's amazing how consistent you are at that place. Even with a boat you can go without a mutton for a long time.

Two little bulls eh.. I wonder where the older cousins are. Wish I could shoot one of them fuckers. If one come after my fish and I'm close I'm shooting it in self defense, I'll try keeping it too.

  • Time to start diving with a partner maybe.. you know "nunca bucea solo"  <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">

  • You are 100% correct.
    I HAD 2 buddies but they LEFT me out there all alone with those bulls :@ <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x">
( .357 PPD is your friend. That and Quick Clot :) )

  • yes hau is consistently a good spearfisher, rarely does he not get what many people would call a goood day eventhose hitting multiple spots by boat., i think the most fun he has is the 3 min he sppends when we are gearin up at the trucks as hes lubing up that wetsuit though :)

  • funny the other day i shot my big hog, I saw a bull between 120-150lbs in 15 ft of water. it was the only day i forgot my PH at home. He lives another day to take someone else's fish.

I find it worse when the water is murky and shallow like that day. I was diving alone.I only had a driver.

  • be careful Alan..bulls scare me way more in 15 ft than in 30....dont really know why...I guess the lack of room feels like it can force a confrontation..

    my point exactly ;)

I still shot a hog right next to him, but I had already called the boat over and I was halfway on the boat already.

    Holy shiite it got rough out there today:@ <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x">
I woke up at 7am, looked out the back door and the sea was FLAT and the wind was 2mph. By 730 I was walkin out the door with my gear
I texted a couple spearos an told them I was goin. One texted back an said "Is this a joke?"^^
Since the weather forecast was for gale force conditions I just went to the first reef and got 2 hogs, 2 dogs, 2 porgys an 1 mutton.
The seas and wind picked up fast an I was glad I was just out on the first reef cause it was very rough hitting the beach. My yak flipped 75yds from shore :@ but I had all my gear stowed below in anticipation of a rough landing:)
Today was NOT a level 101 yak freeivespearfishing day^^

Alan / LunkerBuster---what you say is 100% correct
    saw no bulls today:)

  • Hialeah, who's that in your avatar?

That is me, it's closer to shore than it looks lol

Went out early morning yesterday like hau, water was calm at first, then fierce later on. Viz was good, thats all that matters. I only managed 2 lobsters, had to throw away 2 shorts, and lost a big king-size lobster. I tickled him out of the ledge but got too excited and had to come back for air. Next thing I knew he vanished. All fish were small, except for a 20+inch hog that swam by, and of course I had a tickle stick in my hand instead of a gun.

  • Dan---I'm just a spearo that is lucky enough to be able to enjoy being in the sea every day. I have hunted SOMETHING since I was 4yr old walking the rabbit fields of Ohio with my menfolk, so I have a good understanding of animal behavior AND I am lucky enough to be able to afford what for me is the latest and greatest spearin equipment (like your new wetsuits).
One of the other factors why I get fish is that I'm out there in the water spearin for LOTS of hours. Sometimes when others have to quit an go in I get to hunt 4-5 hours longer. I think if you averaged out fish/per/hour you'd see that I really don't get that many fish. This is evident when other spearos go spearin with me and we swim for hours without seeing A spearable fish. They read my daily reports about the fish I get but don't realize that I was IN THE WATER for 7 hours to get 6-7 small fish.
PS---by the way, I'm starting to see several nice grouper. Yesterday I swam down on at least a 30in black IN THE SAND on the first reef. He was VERY lucky I am a law abiding spearo :nono:

Alan--yes sir, the viz WAS 50f that day. Today the sea is again angry with all this wind. :(

Hia-Leah---good job on gettin out there bro. :toast:
I've been reading about the fish you're seein with no gun and then I remembered what I used to do while commercial divin back in the day. I used to wear a ScubaPro holstered pneumatic pistol. Many times the hogs you see are at close range and one of these guns might work as well for you as they did for me 30yr ago.
Here is a site or two that might be helpful for you. ( then we could call you Quick draw McHia-Leah :) )

  • Thanks Hau I'm gonna look into pneumatic pistols, and I've been seeing those groupers around too. One big red was following me like he was my pet.
