Best spearfishing Brand

  • Omer is ok. I have a wetsuit, masks and other fun stuff and an awesome float from them (Shardana) Well made high quality stuff. I think their spearguns are top notch i have seen some around ( Cobra and excalibur) but never had the chance to actually use one.
R.A. Floats are top notch, and everyone seems to love their R.A. guns.
Riffe is my favorite brand by far, even though they don´t produce must of their stuff , they sure know how to pick great stuff. A bit pricey though.

    I'm a Speardiver, not a freediver

  • Riffe has good quality guns but each model with a design flaw, the handle. Bought a Riffe snorkel once, got rid of it the mouth piece was too big. That was the snorkel with a purge and the mouth piece that fits a scuba regulator. The Riffe spearfisher's knife is good but Speardiver Predator knife is a nicer one with double serration from the same Italian factory. Riffe's bigger knife the silencer I think, is too big and bulky. The sheath is hard plastic which is heavy and inflexible. Riffe thin wetsuits are crap, they fall apart see my review. For their new wetsuits just give it a chance before you buy and let some people get it and come back with reviews. Riffe floats are nice but expensive. The new big inflatable float (2 atmospheres) looks very well made and doesn't have a comparable one on the market. Their stringers are nothing but a shaft with a hole and a piece of mono. The Riffe trigger mechanism is $75 and doesn't hold a candle to the Speardiver triggers. Did I leave anything out?

  • Riffe guns, tips, shafts, masks, fins and knives are top notch. Must of the stuff is Aqa, Spetton, or such. Anyway i like better the riffe masks than any other production mask (Viso and mantis) (AQA masks) Great stuff with great value. Their guns are the best, compared pound by pound with other guns of similar price range, even custom or semicustom. I currently have an Omer ocean mimetic suit that is great and is warm and durable. Riffe suits really got to be superb to compete with Omer in that sense. After spending some real big bucks in spearfishing gear i´m sold to Riffe. Speaking of guns Rabitech and R.A. are great guns based on popular opinion, and great value for the money. I had the opportunity to shoot a Rabi 110 twin 16 bands, and a sporasub 130, that in fact is identical to the stealth. Great accurate guns, but still i think Riffes are better guns in the long run. Just my biased opinion ...

In the pic, me and the mentioned Rabi 110.

  • Once Marco was stranded on a small island with no food for 11 days. The plastic trigger mech on his rob allen broke and he couldn't use his speargun. The only way he could get nourishment was to chew on his omer wetsuit to extract tiny fungi which kept him alive. It saved his life but he ended up hating the taste of that wetsuit so much that he now hates everything omer. Because of his ordeal he lost a lot of weight and now he's going around saying that he found the secret to staying fit in middle age :D

  • The gun in the picture that "el cabrón" Dan refferred is an Omer :D, but the old ones (made in Italy) and yes, it has a Omer camo tape on it. It was my first "serious" band gun; a 96 cm single banded with which I managed to get many wahoos (That's why I laught when I see people with their "tuna" guns). I used pneumatics for 20+ years before.

Nowadays Omer is cheap good looking chinese crap sold expensive. :nono:

The wetsuits seams fall apart, their fins all break (Record, Bat, Ice). Also the footpockets break sometimes. The shafts used on their "Cayman" guns bend after the first serious fish is shot, I have a T20 carbon fiber gun that also failed in the barrel (a crack where the pin to attach the muzzle is located), the knives bend o even break, the paint of the cayman comes off after 5 dives, the alluminum guns all exploded, the pelagic reels all froze corroded.... Want more?

And no, I don't have an Allien mask, however, if you have a fogging problem, there is a solution; burn the inside of the glasses with a lighter, then rub them strongly with your thumb inside and out with toothpaste and rinse with the hottest water coming out from the tap. Repeat the toothpaste procedure once again and spit it before each dive. Never ever fog again. ;)

A bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day at work.

  • Dan, mark my words when I´m telling you that I want so bad a pair of Speardiver C90 carbon fins. Gonzalo is all excited about his and waiting for them. When I finally get rid of the c4 repaired fins .. :)

  • I like some stuff from Riffe, specially the euro gun(they have to correct the magnet in the front, maybe is only the old models) I have the new 1.5 wetsuit from them and love it, I dont have too use lots of weight with it ans is nice and warm, would like to have Speardiver carbon fins, 90 or the 100, near future.
