Death of a life style

  • We can try not to lose any spots but we have to be careful that spearfishing isn't tarnished by talk of tear offs, mis id'd and shot fish, overlimit pix, spearos accidentally shooting each other etc. My real fear is that someday spearguns are going to be outlawed.

Once again I hate to bitch about it but weridboard is going to be a major downfall towards spearos everywhere in california and possibly the u.s.

Sorry to digress, Don Paul, but I'm still pissed about the closures. RIP Laguna, PV and certain areas on the frontside of cat.

im sorry but not trying to be a dick but that statement u made is bs. if they made spearguns illegal then they need to go after guns, knives, fishing rods and all other forms of catching and killing animals. also ive seen pics with h&l guys with over limits short fish and any other possible thing u could think of. remember that gws caught off the pier by h&l? theres probably been more stabbings on oceanside pier over fishing spots then divers shot with spearguns. again sorry to sound like a dick but i just had to say what i felt.

rip laguna. i gave u the shaft on my last dive there, literally and figuratively.

  • Bryant you are right I think they are just saying that it is just making it harder for people to accept the sport. I think today our society lives on too many fluffy pillows and has never grabbed a shovel. It is showing cause of all the overly sensitive people out there.

ya i get that part. maybe im just pissed cuz of all this mlpa shit and then dealing with backstabbing friends on new years. ive had an absolutely shitty start to 2112.

Really? Ever notice that crossbows aren't allowed for certain types of hunting? Never underestimate enviros brother. Hook and line allows you to release fish "unharmed". Having noobs shoot shorts and post pix about shooting illegal stuff does not release those said fish. There is also a lot of stigma about the pain spearing causes fish vs. fishing.

BTW it is illegal to stab people with a knife ;), just because people do it doesn't mean that it's legal.

i will never underestimate those asshats. but ya i no were u were going with it but again think about that buck sum guy shot rright before dark and never found it, or that bird the dog didnt find.and for fishing theres all sorts of things that dont get reported, i could tell you hours worth of stuff ive seen working on sport boats.where does all that lost fishing line/hooks/weights/ and lures that are lost go? they pollute a lot more than us. these situations come up all the time. problem with us spearos is we don't have organizations like NRA to help fight against the nutjobs. bet my life that if we had a group as big as the NRA but for fishing that these closures wouldnt have happened.

  • There's the FRA but I don't know if they operate in your area.

I'm sorry about your loss. If this happened here I'd probably move to another state. But it would be hard to beat the convenience of being able to hunt a few hundred yards off the beach and a 15 minute drive to the boat ramp.

  • Truely a sad day in the spearfishing world. I too loved Moss St as my Dad and Don Paul did as well. It will definitely be missed. I took many PBs there and opened me up to spearfishing the California reefs.

I'm saving up all my money to put towards building a new house in Baja to enjoy raw spearfishing right off my porch as it was meant to be. Should start breaking groung this summer.

  • So this is what I came up with do to the fact that I decided not to get a fishing license this year .What i did was I removed the trigger mech , line release and bands . Next i got a 1 1/2" piece of 5/8ths band material and a 1/4" carrage bolt and ran it through the the solid band slot then i placed washers on the end along with a nylock nut and tightened the whole thing up so that the washers tighten against the band slot (i did this so if the band material compresses the washers will hold it in place).

  • I would starve without a license, and my clubs Constitution states any F+g violation fee will be doubled by the club fine. Needless to say I will just be holding off till Fri.

Are you going to shorten that carriage bolt....I don't want you to dance with that in big surf.;)

    Cheers, Don

  • Very cool idea! How secure is the camera? I think that it may fall forward/backwards since it is only the band holding it. You should tape a small dive light to the end and poke that thing around into caves!

  • yeah i shortened it .i had to calulate the band expantion and leave enough room to get the lock washer and nut on . My Photographer (wife ) was unavailible for a reshoot . I do need the flat lens and a sd card and I'll take care of that next week . This is also a proto type it not even stainless . If it works out o.k I'll butcher some stainless this weekend .

  • It's actually more securred by the pressure of the washers against the muzzle now and the band materal is to avoid a sloppy fit. Also I will not be poaching or breaking any laws . I will confine my fishing to Piers on H and L as to avoid a ticket and eat more fillers such as more veggies to suppliment the lack of fish. But what I wont do is stop diving . I don't drink ,I don't smoke and I hate most sports so I'm kinda limited on outlets so I will get in the water

  • I'd be down for a free dive only outing to practice form etc. Let me know.
I also took the last legal game fish to come out of the Scripps reserve, a nice little halibut at around 10pm 12/31/11.

  • The fights not over yet guys , don't think not buying a lic is gonna mean squat

We need to stay strong and stay united as a tribe ...

I know some guys in the fathomeirs /oc spearos/ sdfds are setting up a great event that will
Go Down in history .. I can't wait

It will happen.... just where? Lot's of plans in the works to protest these closures. We are not happy but I do not advocate illegal poaching. I have my own "camera platform" and we will be making dives. Golly.... hope somebody doesn't call Cal-Tip on me ;)
